Question about color temperature.

How effective would a CFL that emits a 4100k or 5500k color spectrum be compared to a CFL that emits a 2700 or 6500 range? I was browsing around my local Home Depot and I found a CFL that put out around 4000ish lumens and it was rated at 4100k. I also found a 100watt bulb that put out around 10,000 lumens at 5500k.

My main question is are these color temperatures suitable for growing or should I stick with standard 2700/6500 bulbs. I can't seem to find any large bulbs at either of those ranges.

They are not as effevtive as 6500K bulbs. I hate hope depot because i couldnt find any 6500K or 2700K cfl's that were more than 23 Watt's. So i went down to lowe's and they had plenty of 6500K bulbs, and walmart had 2700K bulbs. You can definately use the other lights but it's not recommended.

Does lowes have a much better selection than Home Depot? There are a couple around where I am that I could scope out.

i found the 42 watt 2700k cfls to be the best. they have the highest lumen density. mix in some 6500k's especially for veg. i didnt find them so effective for flowering.

Instead of making a new thread, I'm going to post the rest of my questions here to save flooding the CFL section with my noob questions.

I sort of planned out a something for my closet that consists of 6x(26watt 6500k) CFLs and 3x(40watt 2700k) CFLs. Each 26 watt bulb puts out 1600 lumens and each 40watt bulb emits 2600 lumens. According to my calculations, if I grow four plants under that, each plant would get 4350 lumens. If half of my four plants end up being male, I'll get rid of them and then I will have double the amount of lumens per plant. My question is, are 4350 lumens per plant enough for respectable early growth and then, is 8700 lumens enough for two female plants?

Yeah that would be enough.
