Question about Netting

i've been undergound for a while, so forgive my ignorance..

When i see big rooms, greenhouses and even certain outdoor runs nowadays, why do the plants have netting all over them? It seems like the "in" thing to do.. But they are not scrogging, not even close. they simply have netting all up in their plants.

These dudes are like either running it right though their plants (as if to scrog but they aint scrogging), or wrapping their plants in netting like an x-mas tree for sale, or just draping it over like bird netting over some blackberries or something.. there's no obvious care or maintenance; buds are allowed to grow wild; all into and around the netting itself.. means u gotta tear up yur buds to get them out, which means they are only good as extract material .. The closest thing I've seen to these modern grows , was before the laws changed, i saw rooms with trellised runs of plants in Switzerland, but they were different and when the laws changed all that faded away anyway.. What i see nowadays in America is different.

I don get it and i cant see any benefits..it is probably more labor intensive, since u have the extra step of cutting into netting to even reach yur plants. also means it's difficult to harvest whole plants... hanging cut sections instead of a whole plant, will shorten drying time and require clever fix, otherwise, the quality of the end product could be effected.. and the cost of netting would add up too. You'd need new netting each run, b/c you have to destroy it to get to yur buds.. If it's for support, then a more logical and sound solution would be a single purchase of plastic-coated steel stakes. they last you a lifetime.. or for smaller plants, tomato cages last almost as long (welding gives away after a few yrs outside or 5-10yr inside life). Ive ran a network of plant tie tape from cielings before, and even that will last more than a few runs (as long as yur knots are not too bad).

So why are so many people using netting over their plants, when they're obviously not scrogging? What am i missing? Is there some reason that I'm just not aware of? Thanks!
