Question about RDWC

I am about 3 days away from completing my first DWC grow which I must say looks fantastic but now after doing standalone DWC buckets I see how foolish it is to not have RDWC. My question is about using a rez/control bucket because I have never used one before. I plan on running about 20 site RDWC this next grow rip with a chiller and control valves to every bucket so I can isolate to a single bucket... I know its excessive but thats how I do things. The question is about filling the rez and the rest of the system. My idea of how this should work is that the big 55 gal drum that is gonna be gravity feeding the control bucket/system should consist of nothing but plain ph'd water and only additives that are recommended to use at every watering such as cal mag (I use r/o). I plan to change the solution every week in my 20 site system just like I did with stand alone. I am thinking the way to go about this to mix 65 gal of nutes (3 gal per bucket x 20 + 5 gal control bucket) and the 55 gal drum with plain water will auto top the system with plain water therefore letting the plants eat the nutes up through out the week. I only plan on introducing new nutes once a week which will be every time I change out. My confusion is that people always talk about rez being full of fresh nute solution. Does that mean that the 55 gal drum should be nuted? I have 6ft plants right now that I only fed once a week and topped off with water everyday until it was bucket change time and they came out great. It seems like it would be a waste of time, nutes, and money and be way overkill to just have nuted water topping off the system everyday. Now that I have successfully completed a grow and came out with a product that looks like it could possibly be the best weed Im ever gonna smoke in life, I am a firm believer that less is more in these systems and that keeping ppm's up is only good for burning the shit out of your plants. I am assuming the extra 5 gal of nutes in the control bucket will be enough to keep ppm/ph stable anyway. I guess I am going off on some other shit right now. All I want to know is what needs to happen in the 55gal drum that is gonna be gravity feeding/topping off the system everyday? I feel like my idea has to be right and it would also be way easier to maintain that way. Let me know how you run your system RDWC users I need to know how to do this soon here I am harvesting in about 3 or 4 days. TIA.

hi there Mr.Detroit, i am not been bad when i say this 20 buckets or so in rdwc is going to be headaches there is a lot ov water ur going to be using, worse case if ya get a leak....well i dont have to say you would be better off in aerophonics less water and much more mangeable......

I do hear you but I know what I can and can't do with my strain in DWC and I like DWC better then aero... I hear what your saying about the headache but it can't be no worse then what I am doing now... Ill deal with the large water volumes, I deal with them now the only difference is I have to manually top all buckets with 2+ gallons a piece every day. I know what I wanna do I just need to know how to run it.

hi there i would do 5 bucket setups so u had 4 rez and 1 topup rez to topup the 4 rez's this way u could do diffrent strains if u whanted 2...

pls have a look at my diagram the link is in post 2

I keep the my rez filled with PH water only that way when it fills my control bucket it should maintain the ph and it won't raise the ppm's because it is only ph'd water... I will check my ppm's in my control bucked and add the nutes to the control bucket if the system needs more nutes... If you are wanting to grow 6ft plants in your RDWC system i would recommend at least 5 Gallon buckets for your grow sites... This site www.cch20.com i think recommends 13g buckets for 6-10ft plants... that site is what prompted me to design my system... i m only growing 3-5ft though and i am using the 5 gallon buckets.

Thanks man that's the answer I was looking for.. I figured it had to go like that because keeping a nuted Rez topping off the system would be retarded. As for the bucket size I use 5's now and I'm planning on keeping them for rdwc. I already experienced the leaks too from my water level indicators I had 2 diff buckets drop 4 gallons of fresh nutes a piece one day all over my floor. Silicone around the grommets cures all leaks though I had to figure that one out the hard way but rest assured any potential leak spot gets siliconed right away before water even sees it now. Anyway thank you and for those of you interested in what dwc can do I just uploaded a vid to YouTube that I will post under this post.

I gotta say it once more, I like to grow different strains at the same time and with individual res you can customize to the plants needs, you can't do this with one res. I gotta spam these totes I designed one more time(see photos)
Oh, why I spammed those photos I dunno, I see you pasted that other link and they are there, ah well I like to spam my design.

i would have more than 1 rez in big setup so i could do difrents strains too make it more easy
but the guy that started this thread as all ready got a strain in mind that he has had nailed down to a tee.....
