Question about topping

Hey all, so I'm a few weeks into flower and height is becoming a real issue. I let my girls get to a manageable height before switching to 12/12 but now they are starting to get even taller. Each branch is in full glory with pistols and such so I'm thinking it's probably a bad idea to top, right? However, I'm concerned about the hid's burning them and I cannot raise them. About how much damage will topping do to my yield at this point?

dont top them. if you have to get some soft twin and carefully bend them to go where you want dont overdo it though

Okay thanks that's a good suggestion. One last question: to prevent this in the future should I top them prior to flowering? Once the plant begins to flower doesn't it stop growing vertically and begin to focus more on budding?

Ive read that a plant can almost double in size when flowering. Yes, if your going to top do it before flowering.

Get a roll of garden tie. Its like the the stuff at the stores that you tie your plastic bags with, but in a roll. (wal mart).

bend with garden ties or break the stem, this will cause more stress tho...i heard that could be a good thing tho

The plant can as much as triple in size during flowering (although I think double is more like it) and a lot of that is vertical.

I topped mine twice in veg and it really helped keep them short and bushy. I also LST'd (tied down) a bunch - but those ended up male - experiment over. I also selected a strain that tends to grow shorter (early misty)

You can buy this really soft..almost like wide, flat ribbon...at the garden store. It's called plant tape usually. It will be very gentle.

I've got vertical space - but I can only raise the lamp to about 5 feet and that's it - so I was watching height carefully.

Good luck

you might be able to super crop. actually, iv read, and seen on youtube how people will supercrop three weeks into flowering. It's in FAQ's under experienced cultivation or somthing like that, you'll find it. All you have to do is take the stem in between your thumb and pointer finger and twista and break the tissue within the stem, but not completely to where its hallowed out. and it should actually bend over at a 90 degree angle, at least thats what iv seen on youtube where this dude had a garage full of dank plants growing, and he KNEW his shit. The stem will actually come back twice as strong and increase yeild, i tryed it once on my first grow but did it too early(like 2 weeks into flowering) so i did it again on the 3rd week, mistake, and the stem got so beefed up and thick it actually busted a seem in the stem a lil bit so its true that it comes back twice as strong, 3 times as strong in my case lol. but do your research on super cropping and make your decision but no the 1st three weeks into flowering is when all the vertical stretching takes places, from week 4 on almost all bud production. Hoped it helped, but no dont do any cutting once in flowering, that'll really devert its energy into healing and repairing the cut area, i think you'll be most then satisfied if you do choose to supercrop

Yea LSTing is a real good way to shorten the plant, i have my plant about to into flowering LST'd, its real good for creating multiple tops, but im going to super crop a portion of my tops and see if how much a difference it makes

dont let my 2nd post confuse, LSTing is best used during veg cycle. its more something gradual as the plant develops, you'd want to supercrop
