Question for the mad scientists...

Anyone have a theory on how to power a MOBILE 5 megawatt laser? I mean, that's a shit ton of juice, and the military wants those to fly all around to shoot down baddies. Just a thought, but how the hell would you power something that large?

well im sure they are asking the same questions seeing as we currently donot have them flying around eh?

haha
iron man
if we could really do that
this would now be
the united countrys of america
haha cause we would take over the world

well i was doing some research on high powered lasers, and it seems the most straighforward approach would be to use chemical reactions to create energy.

There have been field tests of these devices. I bet they've even tried it from a plane by now.

maybe they are using nanotechnology... some kind of atom power up thing i dont know ^^

but i was on the train, and this guy was talking to me about nanotechnology and how pc's will become 1000x faster..... he was at this place in geneve he was saying, pretty drunk but he was dresst very smart... didnt know what to think, so i just smiled and noded :)

Theres a lot of conspiracy theories on these things that are in area 51.

Just like a clear bar that never looses energy, doesn't need anything to give it energy etc.

i'll try finding something on it..

This is how you power a mobile laser. ^

Speaking of lasers years ago I was taking a computer course at the local college. The one guy in my class was an older gentlemen and actually had photographic memory. (the teacher tried to convince the guy to teach the course) Well long story short he told me that back in the 70's lasers were already developed that were strong enough to essentially melt whatever. His example of something large that could be melted was a passing freight car on a train.

The mobile lasers in use at the moment use exactly what HavocDB said. chemical reactions.

nanotubes are very interesting. they posess a tremendous amount of potential in regards to industrial and technological application. they are very strong, and can have an amazing length/width ratio. some make great conductors, and can be used to make very miniature circuits.

the problem is that they are difficult to produce. i wouldn't expect any major implementation of nanotube tech in marketable electronics for a very long time. However, we may start to see certain materials infused with these little structures, as they can be very beneficial to certain metal alloys and possibly certain polymers.

An interesting observation about nanotubes, many are shaped very similar to trichomes, with a cylindrical tube capped at one end by a spherical buckyball.

i'm sure a couple AAA's would power it
i'll try to remember that. Next time i'm in need of a vast power source, i'll ring up the roadside assistance crew! I'm sure it wouldn't be the strangest call they've ever received. i'll just tell 'em i'm hunting deer...
