Well you just dont grow em man. Thats truly the only way that you cant worry about someone coming in at any minute of the day. My friend used to grow in an apartment and he had the maintenance people standing out the door asking about a funny smell and that same day all the plants wer chopped and no one ever came back to check up on him. If you grow in an apartment you wille at yourself up from the inside out as they are growing bro. But hey im growin gin a rented house but the landlord never comes around and the hous eis up to me to take care of and everything ya know. But i would just have 2 or 3 plants going in a closet or something and just keep the closet door shut when someone comes over and keep the smell taken care of and you should be alright!

You should only be growing what fits in furniture like a wardrobe cabinet or two. They can't look in the furniture and you are always safe as long as you control the smell.

(But I have grown with two 1kw lights and a/c and veg area and all kinds of stuff taking up a whole bedroom and bathroom before, and it was scary as hell)

all i want to do is grow my own herb to smoke and i hate how i have to worry about this shit. Any suggestions on how to get rid of the plants incase of an unexpected visit. i can easily disassemble my setup in a half hour but with being in the city its hard to walk outside with plants

How big are we talking about just to support your habit? Normally it wouldn't take *that much* space or plants and would fit in any box or furniture.

What is your setup like? Lights, plants, plant sizes

this is my setup: The only thing i need to know is what size light i should get. Either a 400w or 600w.
-growbox 3x3x6
-flora bloom and grow nutrients
-3 gallon pots (4)
-Mini fans for air circulation
-Foxfarm soil
-charcoal air filter

only lookin to grow four plants max.

Water cooled hoods are a joke... They cut the light output way way too much and are too expensive.

Four plants will fit in any wardrobe cabinet, etc. After you choose a cabinet and do away with the grow tent you can be secure. This is the type of cabinet you need and you can get them used pretty cheap on craigslist, kijiji, ebay(local), newspapers, Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc etc.

Doesn't have to be that expensive or new... And the one I linked to is small in comparison to what you can find.
After you select your cab then I can help you choose a light. Ebay off that grow tent or something.

do i need an exauhst or intake fan for my charcoal filter. how would i use this. Do i hook up and intake fan to the charcoal filter with ducting going from the intake fan to outside my grow room. I gues what im trying to figure out is whether the air gets sucked threw the filter or does it get blown through. I assum intake means getting sucked through and exhaust means getting blown throw the filter

I agree odor control, I have a small set up in my room with a homebox and all I would need to do it close the closet doors and shut off the fans and stuff for a bit. Once people leave I can start it back up. Maintenance should have no need to come in and landlord is a management company that no longer has a key to my place (I changed the locks). Cable guy came the other day and he never knew a thing. Just keep it cool and rule cost, risk, and benefit. For example if I change the locks they could fine me for labor if they have to get in but that is better than going to jail. Stay safe and like others said odor control is key plants can smell really strong when in full flower.

nevermind about whether i need an intake or exauhst fan for my filter. I have a hole in the back for air to come in and then I am using a charcoal filter with an inline fan that exhaust out of the grow room. my other question is can i have it vent out into my closet or will it reak too much. Im hoping the filter will get rid of the smell so i can do this

the proper size filter with the proper set cfm fan will eliminate the smell, brother.
youll enjoy in the homebox. make sure u get an air cooled reflector for your lamp, it will help keep the temps down.
i also suggest u buy a digital ballast to help keep temps down.

imo, you should run one inline fan cooling your light. and one inline fan for your filter.

i dont know about you guys, but where im from in the US, by law your landlord has to give you 24-48 hours notice before entering your place. that should give you enough time to deal with everything. look into it.

i lock the bedroom door and tell them that my room mate is outta town.. keep the rest of the place clean as a whistle, dont bother the neighbors, or make too much noise and its good to go.

I grow in a small two bedroom apt. I live in a city two hours away from my family and and g/f's family lives an hour away. No one really comes over, the only people who do are two long time friends one of which grows and one hasn't said anything if he has noticed the smell..

It can be a little nerve wracking, i had some water leaking in a window during my last grow and I had to just let it be, dry it up and pray for it to get back to freezing temps so it stops. Another time the furnace in the basement was leaking gas and the neighbor was freaking out and calling the electric & gas co. Luckily it was all in the basement and they didn't have to come in..

You can't control situations like that, but if you expect them they wont be as nerve wracking when they happen.

Also, don't grow super skunk in a small apartment unless you have good odor control. I made that mistake this grow. Won't do that again. The entire house smells of it.

Fix your own issues around the house and pay your rent on time. Give them no reason to come to your apt and you'll be alright

Yeah man if your really looking only to grow enough for just you then i would just get a small light like a 400 with everything if you have the money for it like a carbon filter and a can fan and you can exhaust your light with the fan and push the clean air out of the room through the carbon filter and then you can get either some kind of ona block to help control smell or you can look into an ozone generator they are the only thing that i know that actually kills all the smell with a carbon filter and i mean all the smell bro its perfect for you and they make junior ones or smaller ones that are like 75 bucks man and well worth all the money!
