Question on plant genetics

i see that some strains are hybrids. for example alaskan ice is a white widow mother and a haze father.

my question is, do plants usually take their potency, type of high, and sativa/indica form from the mother or father.

Whats the difference from a White widow x haze than a haze x white widow

I have yumbolt 47 which is mother ak47 x a father yumbolt. its suppose to be more an indica stone but ak47 is somewhat a sativa right?

im not sure this fully correct but ive seen this posted somewhere before and i wrote it down.

When selecting which males and which females to use, keep the following in mind as basic guidelines:

Females more strongly influence:

Type of Taste / Smell
Flowering Structure & Yield
Potency & Resin Production

Males more strongly influence:

Amount of Taste / Smell
Flowering Length & Finish
Branch & Fiber Strength / Production
