okay, so im growing 4 plants. two white widow, and two NYC deisel, and its only week 2 for the ww and within the first week for the nyc deisel, and the ww is already starting to stink up my whole apt and now im getting worried about my upstairs or next door neighbors catching wind of what im doing...ive already got a carbon activated air filter, but its just not doing the trick. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just for the record:

i live in a small town where pot is still illegal, so walmart is basically my only option here. i think theres a farm supply store, but ive never had a reason to go in there, so im not exactly sure whats in there. so please keep my limitations in mind when coming up with ideas.

-Thanks

then you arnt using your filter properly. order an "ona breeze" online with a 1 gal tub of "fresh Linen" to go under it.

Swampy, what does your carbon filter setup look like? Are we talking about an inline fan attached to a can filter of sorts, or is it a homemade deal?

If it's a fan to a filter then you really should be good to go, the only problem I can think of would be that the fan isn't powerful enough, but even the small 4" fans should be plenty strong for only a few plants. Other than that if you made the setup yourself did you use activated carbon? If not, that's your problem, only activated carbon will remove the smell.
If its not one of those two things, elaborate a bit more on the setup and we'll brainstorm some more ideas.

well im doing a closet grow, so i didnt have room for any exaust fans or anything like that...theres not much room at all. the set up i have now is basically a hepa filtering device type deal that was at walmart. it worked well for my first grow, but for some reason its just not doing it for me.

that's because you need to spend money on a real fan and filter so you don't go to jail. just my 2 cents i guess

i dont mind spending money, (the carbon air filter i got from walmart was over $100) but this is only my second grow, so i went with what worked the first time. so what do you consider a "real fan and filter" and what kind of money am i looking to spend?

If it worked well for you on the first grow, why don't you buy a new filter for it ? They lose their effectiveness after a while no matter what kind you have. The can type will last a lot longer, but they are more expensive.

If it worked the first time around you may need to replace the carbon inserts for your device. They usually sell them in the same area as the unit itself. But if your growing some dank shit this time around you may need more punch to knock out the smell. I am dealing with the same issue. I made a cheap air filter type unit with a bucket, fan and activated charcoal from the pet store. It works ok but I can tell it's not going to cut it much longer. Good luck! If yo shop online you should be able to buy something that will work.

That is a damn good price for both! I may just buy one of those this week! ty Gyro
If you do a search on ebay you will find popular hydro stores selling these things on ebay a lot cheaper than they go for in their stores or on their online stores. Sometimes the shipping is included !

I got the idea from a thread on the do it yourself section of RIU! Can't find it right now. If you have the money I would go with that combo unit. It's just a bucket from the depot, a small honeywell personal fan, activated charcoal from wally world, some pet screen and duct tape. Really simple but effective for a small area like yours.

That carbon from wally world is expensive ! They sell it on ebay by the bags a lot cheaper. It would take a lot of those little boxes from walmart to make a DIY and for that price you can just buy a pre-made one. Those can type are refillable.

I agree that eBay fan and filter is a great deal. You should seriously consider that option.

if your seriously worried about getting in trouble, do not do the DIY method. should have planned this out from the beginning.
