im planning on buying a secret jardin dr40 and using it for veg and flower at the moment. its dimensions are 16''x16''x47'' and i will be using a 150w hps for lighting. my question is that with this amount of height how long should i let the plants veg for to get the maximum yield but still have enough room? Also, since the plants will be kinda short should i just wait until flowering to start the nutes or should i start nutes in veg?

i dont know about your hight issue but i would start giving nuts in veg, i am. in about a week i will chang my light cycle but i will be giving nuts through all the growing stages until i flush it at the end.
thats another thing i wasnt sure about... is it important to flush? when and how do i do it?

SOOO important to flush. I flush every week, but you could get away with every 2-3 weeks if you arent fertalizing like mad. If you dont flush, unused salts build up and cause burning and will change the pH of your soil which will cause burning and deficiency's as well.
Flushing will keep your plants a lot healthier!
