Another oddball question-

I am having a hard time finding sterile soil with no nutrients for germing seeds.I am going to be using Ocean Forest soil but I am thinking that is a little too hot for sprouts.

Can I flush out some used soil to get the salts out and use that to sprout in ? Maybe run some boiling water through it or something ?

germ some seeds in paper towels. u kno this method? seeds on folded wet paper towel left in a tupperware container in a dark warm area. usually, for me at least, they will sprout in 1-3 days.

Any reason why it has to be sterile? Used soil isn't sterile either. And could possibly harbor something you don't want to have in your pot.

If I already had good soil like you do....but thought it was too strong for seedlings.....I'd just get a bag of something at the home depot or garden center to sprout the seeds in. Than transplant into the good stuff when they're ready.

I wouldn't reuse soil. Even if it was all I had. I'd wait til I got something new.

I hear ya man..if it were that easy to find soil with no nutes in it, which is what I want, I would have it an would not have posted this.I have looked everywhere - Home Depot, Lowe's,the 2 hydro shops within driving distance, etc. and cannot find soil that is not filled with chemical or organic time-release nutes.I used some organic soil this grow and it did ok, but I am using soil I haven't used before and read that it can run kind of hot for sprouts and seedlings. :peace: .

Just some idiot
I use fox farm Light warrior for my sprouts and I have no problems to report at the moment. I've even added some earth worm castings and everything is doing great.
