Real Deal

Now it's time for the real-deal. I've decided to do DWC.
1-plant.
I want to do the seedling stage with a 125cfl. I have a 18"x19x10" Small seeding box to start.
and then want to move her into a 31x31x70 gro-tent. I purchased the purple apollo 400 watt hmh/hps light and
2 small fans for cooling and 1 fan to suck out that nasty hot-air.

I am growing White castle strain, looking to max it out at 30-36 inches by time of cut down. can anyone tell me if im about to murder a plant with heat...whether it sounds good and also...give me some advice on some nutes. I purchased the recipe for success, but i still am very nervous about everything. I want my little girl to win talent shows...

Totally open to opinion. Hope I am not on the wrong track. :/

What size are the fans?
That does seem a small space for a 400w hps. They kick out some heat as you are aware.

Sounds like your set to go. Can't really say if you'll murder them with heat when you switch to the 400w, you'll need to tell us the cfm of your exhaust fan. But 400's aren't overly hot anyway. Nutes is personal preference weather you want to go chemical or organic. I personally use biobizz organic nutes because of the ease of use and its really hard to burn your plants with them. Your definitly not on the wrong track. Good luck

If you want to max it out at 36" id recommend vegging til she about a foot tall as a guide.
If you can get enough space between your plants and the 400 do some vegging under hps when they sturdy enough. Just watch for signs of burning and heat stress.
I use a 125 cfl just to bring my clones on and veg and flower under 600w hps.

Cool guys. I'm still shopping around for fans. don't have much quit left at the moment.
I've heard for the area, a cfl is great light for the plants. I want to veg them 24-0 for atleast 30...I was planning to change it to flower at 16"
any advice on fans? I understand it's a game of "learn for yourself" but gotta take the tips if i can get them!!! :P

I just have my 125 cfl in a small cuboard and have it about 4" from the top of the humidity dome.
Genersyes enough hest and light to bring the clones on... have it n 24/7...could be 18/6 if you wished but that is my heat source aswell so temps would drop to much if off for 6hrs.
Cfls are good for side lighting and/or bringing on clones or seedlings. But if you want tight big buds do majority of your veg under your hps.

As for fans, in your space i would go for a 4" intake. Which doesnt have to be much. Just a cheap bathroom extract fan will be fine.
For out take id suggest a 6" inline fan with carbon filter attached.
As long as you create negative pressure non of the smell will escape...

have you ever tried a full grow under cfl? how many cfls you using? i wondered what the outcome would be of 4-100cfls on top and rigging up side reflectors with 1-80cfl on left and right. still continuing dwc method. ordered snsi-grow and bloom instead. just because of the ph balancing headache i want to try hard and avoid. my space is limited so i debate sometimes on keeping the big guns set aside until i move into our new place next fall.

You can do a pretty decnt grow with cfls and you will get decent smoke frm them. But the buds tend to be looser and are far less dence than hps.
Atm ive only got one 125w cfl for my clones....

Remember with cfls you need the real output....dont get the ones that say 23w equivilent to 100w.
Look into getting one bigger cfl rather than 4 100w's.....but if you serious about a getting a good grow going you gotta go hps.

ill mmore than likely switch to the hps come harvest time, but what do you mean about the cfls? i thought i read that you went by the equivelant wattage..not the actual? you mean they actually make a 100watt cfl? do i feel like a knob? yes...

sounds like your good. that 400w HID will be fine in your tent as long as you got a cool tube kit. i used to run a 400w in a 32x32 tent and it was fine, worked great.

first thing i am thinking is ScROG screen to maximize yeild and veg till you fill it. that 400w will provide a nice light footprint to grow out a really nice ScROG.

make sure you have at the verry least a good PH tester. maintain a good PH and good temps in your rez/DWC bucket and you should be good to go. never think more is better with nutrients. if the plant is a nice green color its well fed.

a decent PPM meter would be nice so you can measure how much dissolved salts (nutrients) are in the water.

make sure when you set up a screen (if you decide to go that route) you can get into your DWC bucket easily for testing and water changes. your gonna have to be able to lift the lid off the bucket and over the netpot.

best of luck to ya...these guys may not have answered speedy but they did answer and theres alot of good knowledge on here. check out the stickeys and always research before you take someones advice..advice is great but not all of it is correct and incorect advice can turn into more damaged or even dead plants. use the advice as a "point in the right direction" and seek out better information on the issue.

i definitely no mh/hps is the mint way to go, tighter buds, higher spectrum and just blows the plant into overdrive, which is what i've researched mostly, but the cfl challenge is always creeping up on me.lol
