Real reason Democrats want to raise minimum wage.

We've all been hearing alot about increasing the minimum wage.

Seattle just decided to take the lead and has decided to boost the minimum wage there to $15/hr.

I'm glad they were willing to experiment and see what happens. If it's successful there, it will be a big boost to the movement.

I think, however, that the real reason for the lefts drive to increase the minimum is less noble than helping the working poor.

It's super simple, really. Most union contracts formulate their wages by minimum wage × Y

Raising the national minimum wage would boost the wages significantly of most of the remaining union members.

If you now enjoy a secure living making $15/hr, which is not terribly hard to work up to, raising the minimum wage to $10/hr would eviscerate your spending power.

The actual percent of the work force actually working for the minimum is fairly low. I think it's under 5 percent.

I'm not saying that those under the new minimum who get raises in pay aren't better off.

They would be.

What I'm saying is that those who make more than the new minimum don't necessarily get a corresponding raise. They usually don't. This is essentially a pay cut for everyone else.

If you are at the cusp of the middle class at 15 an hour and they raised the minimum wage to 12, you just became poor again.

The real people to feel sorry for are your grand parents on social security.

Obama has made it a point to give them the smallest increase in benefits of any President in recent memory.

Radical raises in the minimum wage are detrimental to all but the poorest (least useful) amongst us.

I've no doubt that the minimum will need to be raised again. Eventually to 10 and 15.

It should be 10 by 2021, and 15 by 2038.

The cost of living for those on a fixed income does not change by much under Obama.

It's well documented that in times of economic hardship, the sale of cat/dog food dramatically increases.

They are supposedly safe for human consumption.

All raising minimum wage will do is make those poor fucker eat more cat food.

When you do something that people like they give you certificates of appreciation. These are green, mostly, and have pictures of dead presidents on them.

If you're 30 years old and your life's compilation of skill has resulted in a minimum wage situation, you're a failure.

Yes, I was 30 and making minimum wage for a whie, why? Because I failed.

Luckily for me I was very proactive and industrious for the first 27.5 years of my life, that when I got my head out of my ass, all I had to do was prove that I could show up to work, not steal, and behave normal again.

I now enjoy a significant improvement in income.

Why? Because I dedicated the majority of my life to self improvement and hard work.

There will always be those among us who just don't get it.

Then there will be those who are just entering or reentering the work place.

That's what low wage (low skill) work is for.

The 40 year old burger flipper has more than likely proved many times in his life that he sucks.

It sucks for people who were employed with a good paying company 10-40 years ago who now
have no income due to the company closing down on them.
They were faithful and got fucked by mostly China.

Black and other minorities get subsidies and grants from the federal government to start a business. I don't have a huge problem with that.

my problem is the tax credits and subsidies they get, for years on end.


It's hard to compete against a business that gets tax money instead of pays taxes.

The minimum wage increasing would be a pain in the ass for everyone except those below it. Our dollars are increasingly less money while most people get small increases in pay over time. We are on a one way ticket to Uncle Buck America.
