so the grow i am doing right now consists of 9 random dank bagseeds, a 400w hps light, and 5 reflectors with 2-26w cfl's in each (one 27k and one 65k each) and my grow is going on six weeks. my problem is that at six weeks my plants arent much bigger than when they were sprouts. they are all between one and three inches tall with roughly three sets of leaves on each. the constant temp of my grow closet is about 80 degrees with 40% humidity and my basement roon with the hps down there stays at about ~70 with 25%humidity. all my plants were planted directly into their 1.5 gallon pots and even have roots growing into the runoff tray. what is going wrong here? my plants should be WAYYYY bigger than this....

first of all what you even doing vegging or trying to flower and what is your light cycle

With that type of lighting, if the roots are truly that large I would say it's an issue with nutrient or water uptake. Plants 3 inches in size don't need a vast root system but if they are not up taking the correct amount of nutrients they will work on the roots rather then the plant to try and cover more ground and thus take up more of their needs. What grow medium are they in, have they been given fertilizers, and whats the watering time table.

It could be several things or for that fact a combination of several different things. Cooler temperatures can cause slower growth and you said your temps were around 70 degrees but if that is the warmest it gets you might want to up that some if you can. It could be genetic too. Lack of cO2 could do it too.

When dealing with bagseed you really do not know exactly what you are getting and you have no idea if the seeds were fully mature or not since they were the result of a crop grown to be smoked and not grown for seed production. There could be other reason too or like I said some combination of reasons.

So all I can say is you have time and effort and at least some expense into what you have growing so try to make the most of it and hope for the best.

well i have five still vegging in the closet still under 24-0 and those are in the closet with a pc fan rigged up as an inlet fan and took the four most mature looking ones a week ago and put them under the 400w hps in the basement which has an oscilating fan going all the time, also the basement is where the gas heater and our cloths dryer is so the heater brings in alot of fresh air and there are two air inlets down there that go directly outside and bring quite a bit of air in, so from what i can tell my conditions should be ideal.... i am using mg organic soil (the best wal mart had) and for the last two weeks i have been putting three drops of shultz plant food per gallon of water, rigt when they started all i had the money for was a few t8's and a reflector for them and that was the first two weeks but since then they have had more than ampe light

oh and since a week after they showed their first set of real leaves i have been watering each plant about a liter of water whenever the soil is about bone dry, so about every two to four days. also have been adding co2 for about two weeks with the water sugar and yeast method

Hmmm strange it could probably be the strain. But really strange maybe your pots are too small for plants.....hmmmmmmmmm:eyesmoke:

sound like 2 things wrong here. 1st is they need more nitregon, or the ph is way off and has locked out your roots. to find out whats going on, your next watering just water with ph water and checkyour ph in the runout.

what are the main noticible symptoms when your ph is outta wack?

slow growth or no growth at all.
well that definetly seems to fit my problem, the plants are all green and healthy so its sounding like it. i just watered yesterday so it will be a few days before i can test the runoff. +rep for you mygirls

one more question, what is the cheapest way to monitor the ph? its gettin to that point in the semester where the funds are running dry......

Lowes has meters that measure moisture and PH for about 10 bucks or if you want a more accurate result PH soil test kits can be had online for under 10 bucks with a few uses. I've grown in that soil myself and though it had decent mulch content the PH was actually near perfect throughout the two months I used it, it did need a decent amount of perlite though to stop it from compacting and suffocating the roots. Since new lights were added as growth improved at all? Anyway, as suggested check the PH but personally if they were that small unless the seeds are from a great bag of green I would replace the seeds and start fresh. If you do want to keep them, and the PH is fine you could try replacing the soil as I have seen that kick start some slow growing seeds but I don't think that is terrible soil may just not be ideal for the strain you got. Also I'm not informed much on the Shultz line but you may try upgrading the nutrient dosage until you start to see tips curling down and then adjust from there. I know that is not how most people say to grow, and those plants may be to small for any nutrients but I personally look at situations like this as make or break for bagseed grows.

your liquid ph test kits are the most accurate you can get.:bigjoint: you can go to your pet store and get one for a fish tank, or a pool supply store and you can get one there.:leaf:

sweet, thanks for the advice aquafina, i have never grown in anything but mg and have never seen anything like this. since i changed and greatly improved my lighting they have all stopped stretching and worked on leaf growth but like i said it is still extremely slow going. since this is make or break like you said about two hours ago i flushed one of the better looking ones with distilled water and am waiting on the results, i chose that particular one because it has actually had leaves that are curling slightly for a while and am hoping that will possibly solve both problems.... i will update sometime tomorrow if anyone cares, i will most likely head over to lowes after class and pick up the ph meter. +rep for aquafina

hey i am kinda going through the same problem with my grow. seedlings seem to be stunted......i purchased them from a known source too. maybe we can find a solution. anyway i was just going to say that i bought one of those meters from lowes and wasnt too happy with it. i dont think that it is exact enough to help plus with the way they pack them and just have them sitting out i think they could be way off too.

ya that probably does sound more accurate, i am not a huge fan of cheap electronics anyway, i just checked at petsmarts website and they have the drops for like six bucks, anyone got any ideas on the cheapest ph+ and ph- chems i can get at a place like petsmart? say hunting bob when you did test your ph with the drops what was it at?
