some friends of mine recently took part in this protest

camps on both sides of the border
making a scene

videos are definitely worth watching
No Borders Camp / Campamento Contra Las Fronteras
San Diego Independent Media Center

a blog from one anarchist collective...

"the entire event was amazing. people came together from all over the united states and mexico and there were even a few europeans in the mix who'd come down just for the camp. we had a pirated radio station, workshops, field trips, communal meals, and lots of great networking and connection. everything was great until the very end, when the border patrol decided they'd had enough of our happy border free camp. the links above both have footage of the grande finale riot, in which the police basically started freaking out and unloading pepper spray bullets on people without any kind of just cause. the footage of the guy being beaten down is particularly horrific. i (carrie) met that guy just the day before all this went down, on a bus in mexico. he's a sweet kid who'd come all the way out from vermont for the camp. watch the video of the police beating the shit out of him.

love and struggle-

i don't get it. protecting our border is wrong?

i'm not here to debate any side

my friends are anarchists
and believe we'd be better off without borders... blah blah blah...

:blsmoke:

i'm no anarchist...
but this is a pretty interesting topic anyways... and there are some viewpoints that aren't normally presented in the mass media...

i love the fact they are showing unity... i think that there needs to be a lot better interactions with other countries... no doubts about that

a big fence isn't gonna protect a whole lot
it's been a fairly large waste of money and has become an icon of this facist regime bush has been pushing for... showing the rest of the world we no longer want their tired, poor, and weary...

i feel sorry for the mexican people who feel their life can be bettered only by risking it to get to the states...

in all honesty... if these people have the strength to travel across the desert under cover with people out to litterally kill them... then damn.. they've done more to deserve living here than me =p

to each his own... as long as you don't need to fuck over other people to get yours... its possible... just not easy

anyways... done rambling... =]

why is there no giant fence going all along canada?

too big?

or is it cuz its just too hard to tell who's illegal when they're all white?

canada doesn't have a border because they have there economy together. along with the US. we both help and protect our citizens. apparently mexico doesn't. you can fix the problems at home or run away. but if you run away at least make it better when you get there.

Yeah, FUCK A FENCE. It will just be multi-million dollar waste of taxpayer money. If they want to get here, they're going to get here. Does anybody really think a fence is going to stop them from getting across the border?

Maybe if the protesters had not been in their face with the border patrol up against the wall, dancing and wailing, they might have reacted differently. I'm pretty sure if I had a few hundred protesters backing me up against the fence, I'd use some sort of force to push them back. What one might call peaceful, another may call agressive and antagonistic. People need to go back to their country of origin and apply for a visa to come to this country and be a part of the American expreience. The fact that 3,000 mexicans are coming accross our border illegaly every week does nothing but help the elites and corporations. The working Americans are taking it up the culo (Ass).

absolutely!

most (80%+) white Americans actually look favorably on individual mexicans - the problem lies in the illegality of their coming here and their unwillingness to adapt or respect our culture.

Our culture is made up of the multitude of cultures that have emigrated here in the past.
Wasting billions of dollars to build a fence is ridiculous. The only would be terrorist that was ever caught crossing was crossing the Canadian border. The 9/11 terrorists came on student Visas.

actually, i doubt the bush regime wants a fence. Why do think it has not been implimented? This idea is in direct conflict with the North American Union (NAU) agenda of the new-cons who wish to eradicate the national borders of Mexico, America and Canada and create one government.

By the way, its something like 10,000 illegal immigrants cross the border everyday. and supposedly about only a third get caught and returned.

I'm of the mind that the best thing we can do for the Mexican people is build a wall that cannot be passed. Mexico's southern border is shut tight. If we do the same with Mexico's northern border, the economic situation in Mexico that is causing the Mexican people to come here illegally will have to be changed. Mexico is a country with vast natural resources, and yet, it is a country that is poverty stricken. This is not a coincidence. A few families are at the top of the machine in Mexico, and they are plundering the people. Shut our borders tight and the Mexican people will revolt and throw the corrupt ruling class out on their ears.

The answer for Mexico is the same as for other Third World countries ... free markets and free minds.

THe southern border is far from shut tight, Salvadorans & Guatamalans pour across that border everyday, in fact they are to Mexicans, as Mexicans are to us.

Do you really think a wall will stop people that are willing to risk thier lives to get across? I don't. It's like drugs in prison, were there's a will there's a way. I think landmines might be better:blsmoke:

Well lets not forget the fact that at the San Diego Tijuana beach, there is a fence that extends like 50 feet into the water. Anyone with basic swimming skills can go around it. I havent seen the Texas Mexico border at the beach, so I have no idea what its like there.
