I just picked up a 600w xtrasun setup, clean setup.... only problem is the reflector didn't come with a lens, my question is can I just have a peace of regular window plate glass cut ($6.00 at ace hardware) to be the lens or do I need to order the tempered hydrofarm replacement lens ( $18.50+shipping+tax)...

Thanks for the help...

U can covered by aluminium foil ( roll)

cover where the lens should be with foil??? you know the lens is the piece of glass that lets light out of reflector while allowing you to keep the bulb sealed inside and air cooled...

Tempered glass is stronger and safer, I say spend the $20 but, that's just me.
I work with automotive glass all day and I fully understand how strong tempered is...on the other hand I know that this reflector is going to be air cooled and shouldn't get much wear and tear....I guess I just want to know if its not unreasonable to put a regular sheet of plate window glass with no negative side effects.

I think the thing is that ordinary glass will filter the amount of light more then the glass thats recommended.
Buying the glass as a replacement, will guarantee you get the right glass.
