Here's the lowdown....
My father has suffered the last 30+ years of his life, nearly all MY life, with chronic pain in his lower back, from deteriorated/bulging disks in the lower lumbar. Surgery upon surgery, narcotics, steroids, injections, you name it he's dealt with it. A few years back when MI passed the MMMP laws, he began to consider cannabis as an alternative. He smoked some dope in the 70's, my older brother remembers it, but fatherhood shy'd him away from illegal activity I imagine.
The culture here has certainly changed. Now, myself and my cohorts from adolescence are returning to our roots, some of us returning to our small hometown to aid the caretaking of our elders, who one by one, are opening their minds, to alternative natural medicines such as cannabis. ANY relief from the pains, or depressions of aging, or the absurd costs of chemical pharmaceuticals, is a huge benefit at this point, for all of us I believe......
Id classify myself as a novice grower no question. I'm a mostly reformed 90's grunge era pothead, but I'm a sharp cookie, and I spent a lot of my late teens into my early 20s fiddling around with growing weed. It was an obsession at one point, and in my circles of weedhead pals, Ive always been the "science guy." Sure, we had a few grows, only one real good one back in like 02', but even though I stopped my feeble attempts to cultivate when I became a father, I always had a passion for the subject..... Its been years since I flowered a plant, until now.
When my Dad finally tried a sample of some cannabis infused oral spray, from a buddy, and found some substantial relief, he came to me asking what it would take to produce his own medicines....
We have the space ready, and running, according to the laws. I have a few close friends who grow, I was gifted a mother plant of unknown origin to get started. I made the decision early on in the process, that surplus yield was of little importance. That decision steered me into learning all I could about LED lighting, that lead me to RIU, which in turn started me down the road of DIY builds, which I've tailored to his space in what I feel is an ideal setup for his needs. That process is complete, and the perpetual grow/harvest cycle is moving according to plan. My brother is a licensed residential homebuilder(as was dad), with heating and cooling experience, so building the area was really fun for all of us. Its pretty much the grow room I always dreamed of working in, and it will evolve as needed.
He/ we (I'm registered as his caregiver) can have 12 plants total, so I built enough COB lighting to have a 4 stage set up that is working very well, the only thing missing is known quality genetics, specific to his needs, and he's willing to invest enough to get top notch seed.....

That's where I need opinions. There is so much out there, and its not like the old days for me, when I cared about dank stench, or high yield. His buddy who uses the oral spray has it made with Tangerine Dream, so that's what he's hell bent on buying, but I want more research first....
Make some recommendations at will. His biggest battles are chronic spinal pain, nerve pain, and insomnia.
I know its different for everybody, but I'm asking for any guidance that you kind and knowledgeable folks are willing to share....
I selfishly want Jack Herer, just because I've wanted to have some since the High Times readin days... LOL
