Regulation over seed strains & names

Is there any regulation over strain genetics?

There seems to be millions of strains by millions of breeders that some of them must be made up bullshit or the same seeds repackaged as something else.

I mean I could buy a pack of Gorilla Glue seeds, grow them out and make a shit ton of seeds then make up a breeder name, call myself Monkeyman Genetics, call the seeds Pineapple Ukulele, give out a few freebies, a few good grow diaries spread around and we're off. All off the back of made up lies and stolen genes.

If you look at any seedbank there are constant new strains, so many that this must be going on to some degree and there's no way of verification.

Of course with weed being illegal in most places there is no chance of proof of genetics but in legal areas is there any regulation over strain genetics and marketing?

I could be wrong man but I believe the TM and copyright laws are federal legislation which would mean that the state government wouldn’t have control over people infringing. That and the federal government is still not covering any part of the industry because it is still illegal by fed law.

That's why you buy from well established breeders. I stay away from fly by night breeders.

Sensi and Dutch Passion will supply you original breeding stock if you want to do this, my banks openly encourage you to make new strains and do whatever you want with them.

My banks would go at you legally if you reproduced their particular genetics for sale as their product though :-)

The seed industry is a joke just like the nutrient industry. Most of the stuff out there is just a bunch of pollen chucks. I don't want any of it that's why I stick with landrace strains and make my own hybrids.

I get a laugh out of all the ridiculous names out there. Especially right here in America. I don't pay any attention to these so called "fire" strains. Some of the best pot I've smoked in years were some recent landraces I grew. Unfortunately American seed banks only carry the fluff with stupid names so I had to get my initial seed stock from overseas. I don't want any Candy Cookies Gelato Purple Fire Haze Pinapple Kush bullshit. And I also don't want feminized or auto's but I'll take landrace regulars all day long.

Obviously you don't know what you're talking about. Take a look at the lineage of those Strawberry Diesel Haze Sherbert Cookies Sundae Pineapple Punch Double Whammy strains you think are so great. They all came from landraces at one point. PCK, Columbian, Mexican, Afghani, etc... The Thai and Hawaiian that was around in the Seventies and Eighties might not be as potent as some of these new "Pollen Chucks" but those strains were absolutely incredible.

THC was a bit lower then lol today’s strains are much higher
I could care less. THC isn't the only thing I look for in cannabis. I don't need 30% THC.

I grow Sensi Skunk, i get zero competition from the modern strains, if anything peeps prefer a real skunk not some crossbreed of a crossbreed.

I have named a bunch of strains because buyers insist on it. "Damned good" doesn't cut it.

I’ve always been interested in bringing some old land races back it’s very interesting to read about the old school strains that gave birth to the marijuana on the market now days the problem I’m having is finding information on these strains.
