Remote control kill switch

Not sure anyone has posted anything like this before... so I thought I'd post up a quick DIY.

I have a loft grow room going on. It's not audible from outside the house but 2 of the fans (room intake and extractor) are audible from inside when there's no background noise in the house... and are definitely audible from next to the extractor vent (into my bathroom).

So how could I create a cheap, easy, stealthy way of turning the fans off? REMOTE CONTROL KILL SWITCH :D

Basically you can buy:
1. a remote control AC relay (£4.30 off ebay) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252292796033
2. wire it up to a mains extension cable (£1 from poundland)
3. add a battery (£1.13 off ebay) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221818288533

and you have a remote control kill switch for a total of £6.43.

Here's a picture of my relay and extension just before I wired them up:

There are just 4 terminals to attach (live and neutral in, live and neutral out). One terminal is unmarked so I just left it alone and then joined together the ground wires with a piece of terminal block and then just closed up the casing.

The remote control looks like a car remote key fob so I've attached it to a keychain and keep it next to my front door. If anyone knocks on my door unexpectedly (such as a friend or family) I can stealthily switch off the noisy fans in a couple of seconds while I reach for my front door key. Tested it out and works beautifully.
