Renting grow house (security issues)

I was thinking about renting out a house specifically for growing...I'm not worried about dealing with the landlord. If the authorities wanted to do a search on my name, could they somehow find this 2nd address of this other grow house? Are tenants tracked in a database by which properties they rent and from whom? I know that they could easily do a search to see which addresses you pay electricity for, but I could easily just have someone else pay electricity for me. Any ideas? This is in the state of Maryland (if that matters).

Chances are, if they are trying to bust you, specifically, they will have mounted a surveillance operation against you and will just let you lead them to the grow house. Otherwise, if they catch on that the house is a grow house, they'll just wait for you to show up.

Once the cops get involved, you're fucked. It comes down to just assuming you won't get caught if you have the balls to continue and being as careful as possible.

I am not advising against it, by any means, to clarify.

typically, too, you don't know they've been watching you until after they break down your door. At least, that seems to be what happens on average.

if you rent a house from a private party . ie: not a management company. there is no way they can trace that you rent an extra house.
if they are onto you tho one of their first steps is to get a warrant to look at your bank statement. if you write a check each month for rent they could find it that way. but by that time they are already on to you anyways.
dont give them a reason to search for you and they will never find you

Well the thing is just be very careful and your best bet is and i know from experience because this is what i was doing 2 years ago. Me and a buddy would rent a house and stay there for one big harvest and move to a new house lol. We were so paranoid we moved every 3-4 months for a year and a half but we made alot of money.

i would have to agree with ststepen420 about living in the house. its kind of a dead give away when you only show up long enough to swap out a rez and such things.
a vacant house with some activity looks very suspicious

Trust me, I would notice anyone following me. I drive a 500 horsepower sports car so there aren't too many people in my city who have the machinery capable of following me, except maybe an F-18. I was just wondering if this was a good safety precaution, and so far it seems like it is. I know the best attitude to have is "don't give the po po no reason to investigate" but this seems like a good safety plan... This way if I get busted at my normal house (which will have little or no weight) I can make a phone call and have the 2nd address cleaned. This second house will not be vacant. I will be there some nights working on cars and such, and a second person will be living there most of the time.

well the only thing is that if you are selling it eventually someones gonna get caught with it and might spill your name, so if theres some way you could supply someone to sell it for you and give them a small cut then thats just another insurance policy to keep you from getting busted. Also if the house doesnt have motion sensor lights then you should get some, its just a good thief deterant when you arent there at night. If you have cars that you are gonna be working on then leaving one there at all times would help as well because neighbors wont wonder why that guy only comes home once a week. Possibly invest in some throw away phones, you know the ones you gotta buy minutes for so that you dont have to get your name linked to a cell phone number that you are using for business.

just a few thoughts, im sure youve thought of such things already but if not i hope it helps

hahahaha, the sports car bit is hilarious; i envy your machismo though.
heheh you wouldn't laugh if you came along for a ride, 2900 lbs, 500 whp, and awd is enough to wet a lot of peoples pants. Its enough to comfortably get away from any cop, which I have done many times. I routinely hit over 160 mph on my beltway ;) But anyways, I just thought I'd post this thread to see what others thought about this type of safety precaution.

Yeah the utilities will be in a 3rd parties name (who has no affiliation with drugs). We are definitely careful, we've been doing this for a while...guess this is actually a good idea (if you can afford it). Our current rental doesn't even have city water, it has its own well system which pumps out really nice (less than 30 ppm) well water with no chlorination! We will look for a location with well water. We don't actually grow that much weight, we are just extra paranoid, and want to lessen any possible risk. Quite a bit of our bud is actually is smoked by us and our friends lol. We were just curious if anyone on this board knew how law enforcement typically looked up addresses for people under investigation. I imagine they look to see if someone OWNS properties, maybe if they pay utilities for other addresses (gas, electricity, phone, water, etc.). So I guess its pretty much impossible for them to find another address that you just rent...yay for us.

The safest grow house is one that in every way shape or form looks like every other house in the neighborhood. Neighbors get suspicious quick, especially in older neighborhoods where everyone knows everyone else.

If you want to avoid that then rent in a new area. But really there is no better security than living in the place you are growing in.

Do not rent from a real estate agency. They will do regular inspections which will mean u will have to pack everything down every so many months.

If you rent privately see if the landlord will take cash, if so pay him or her a couple of months in advance. The less you see of them the better, and with cash there is no paper trail back to you.

Other security tips, take them or leave them:

When you move in, move furnature in and make sure the neighbors see it.

Hang tools on the wall in your garage. Run light timers in your house to simulate life. Put a small tv by the window with the curtains pulled and have that on a timer too.

Mow the lawn regularly, on a saturday morning. Have an alibi ready to explain your odd working hours.

Wash your car in the driveway like everyone else in your neighborhood, also on a saturday morning.

Remember someone will be coming around periodically to read the power meter. If youre running 5000 watts an hour they will see the little power disk, digital readout spinning at a million cycles a second raising suspicion.

Learn when the meter reader is coming and cut back your lights on that day. Even better run your lights overnight, so that the day cycle is using the least amount of power.

Never put grow trash out with your garbage. Buy a mulcher and put it in your basement. Mulch up your stripped plant matter. Grind up any dried leaves in a coffee grinder and stealthily walk across the road and down a bit and drop the grinds into the grass verge. If the police dogs turn up for some random reason, they will be so consumed with the odor down the other side of the road they wont show any interest in your side.

Other than that, install a stealth security system with DV recorder, that looks down the road. No use looking across the road, undercovers only sit there in Hollywood movies.

Look for movement down your street within 30 minutes of you leaving. That means cars slowly cruising past in that time period, or cars that shift away several minutes after you leave.

You can have the fastest car in the world and you will can still get followed. You cannot outrun a police helicopter watching you from 5 miles away directing a crew of tail cops where you just turned into.

Lastly, leave your flash car at your other house, buy a normal boring plain as fuck car with nothing on it that is going to make anyone ever give a fuck about it or who is driving it, and use that one as the car that you drive in to and from your grow house.

Hell yeah! That guy summed up exactly what I meant, albeit in a more articulate and descriptive manner.

Seriously, though, I would love to drive in your car. That sounds fun as hell.

If only I could afford something like that.

I've actually thought of this, and my give it a try one day. If you can, get a house with a fully fenced front and back yard and a big, aggressive dog. That way anyone (nosey neighbor, cop, etc.) who wants to get close to the house will have to get past the dog.
