Replacing 5 Year Old Blackstars

Mine absolutely has UV. Whether it does anything, who knows. But like I said, I was running HID for years and all LED (2 BSs and 2 A51s interleaved) produces more and better bud. I'm not guessing, I'm comparing dry weight and potency. By HID, I meant I was running two bulbs, MH in veg and HPS in flower. Since we aren't running the same lights, your results may vary.

wellpar off ebay has decent lights, iv used em and they have combo packs 2x for the price your looking at for a single blackstar. havnt broken in almost 2 years. never had an issue. full spectrum and they feel just as sturdy as the apollo. i have they do have some more white led in the mix, however the 400w version does pull a good bit of power. i have a power meter i can plug it into to prove it.

I have those blackstar lights ,they list them as having UV diodes but do not, I have contacted the manufacturer a few years back about it he told me they are indeed white/blue/red LEDs.

I have two of these

Shows they have these bands as well

Interesting. If that's the case, then I haven't had any UVB since I switched to all LED (unless the A51s put it out) and I can't say that I've missed it. I do see a couple of articles stating that UVB can improve THC production by 28%. But you can still find articles stating that cholesterol causes heart disease. Be interesting to hear from someone that supplemented UVB like they did in those articles.

The new leds that blackstar makes have UV-B they got this little cfl that hangs down. The Amare's and CLW lights also got some T5's for UV-B light.

They also advertise lights at wattages that are not correct, those 240w UV lights only pull like 190watts and the ion 8 they list as 426w only pulls 165 watts without the cfl dongle on. They grow good plants but are not what are advertised, here some kill a watt readings.

Based on what I read in those articles, it's hard to imagine that little thing will do much. I've always know the BS's don't draw 240. I bought one of those meters too. Here are my week 9 canopies from my last HID grow versus my first LED. Apologies on the crappy image quality in that first pic. That phone had a shit camera.

that "UV" cfl bulb ain't doing shit either................have you tried any top group/bin cobs yet before knocking them? or only the crappy Blackstar and then touting hps's superiority?

Here you can see why it's tedious to work on these:

Here I've bypassed the bad LED:

Here's the light back in action:

Thanks all for the input. Looks like I won't be buying a new light after all.

I've used Black Stars and Area 51's previously. For the last year I've been running an Optic Vero 250. It's the best light I've bought so far.
