Rez Changing Procedures

Hello hydro growers. I am setting up for my first hydro grow and needed some clarification about rez changes and flushing.

I'll be growing with ebb/flow buckets in expanded clay. I plan on changing the rez every week along with a flush at quarter strength or something like florakleen.

First question. Is this a good idea? Can this much flushing have adverse effects on the plants? I've read in several grow books this is a good practice to avoid nutrient lock out generally caused by different individual nutrient uptake rates; thus, individually unknown salts accumulate over time.

Second question. During a rez change, when should I flush (time of the day) and how many times should I flood? I've read that it should be ran during the dark period and I've also read it should be ran for an hour to an hour and a half before the lights go out. I've read that roots shouldn't be flood during the dark period. Also, even if the rez is adequetly aerated, wouldn't flooding plants for an hour or more drown the roots since it's not set up as a DWC?

Thank you in advance for your help.

I have an ebb & gro you have a better system. I only flush when I change veg to flower and then at the end of grow. It's probley a good way to go flushing every week but it's a lot of work. I use a pump to drain my res. it pupms the water out side. I have mine set up to water every 8hr. starting 30 min. before lights go on and then every 8 from there so I do water when light are off. I run water for 30 to 45 min then it drains. I hope this helps

I'm basically asking if I should flush every time I change the rez and how much and at what time of the day I should do it.

No dont flush everytime you change your rez and you should be able to go 2 weeks without changing your rez if using h202 I personally use to flush once or twice now after doing lots of research i never flush unless I see small signs of salt build up. Good Luck

First of all, flushing every week when you change your rez is very good. I do it and the plants love it. But just use plain ph'd distilled water. I don't know about your system because I have a drip system but I only flush for one drip cycle (30 minutes). Do the flush during the day (the first watering is maybe preferable but does not matter too much) not at night because of mold issues.
