Rfi

Looking for pointers on rfi. I live in a small town and the infrastructre isnt that great, i had a 400 watt electronic ballast knock out the internet for the surrounding houses, so i want to be sure that doesnt happen again. So im using magnetic because i hear that wont produce rfi. And i would like to use a powerbox flipbox. Will the flipbox cause rfi?

It shouldn’t cause RFI, but it’s not good to do. You would have to leave the power going to the driver 24/7 and that will cause a lot of issues.

Faraday if it's an issue... but if it's an issue it's likely that they aren't up to emissions spec, buy a high quality light that doesn't skate by on not doing emissions testing.
Faraday cages don’t work well on public utility connected systems. The interference is usually brought through the power cords themselves back into the grid. You can also try adding a magnetic damper to the cord to reduce backfed line noise.

I'm assuming being RF it's splatter from the unit and not conducted emissions.. either way it's a shit unit if it's knocking out wifi.

Agreed... instead of trying to reduce or block the RFI, I would spend that money investing in a better ballast.
Thanks for the replies both of you, lets talk options. Why is is bad to use a flip box? My plan was to use a magnetic ballast because im under the impression they do not cause rfi. Then use the flip box so i could use a single ballast and not have power draw issues on startup. I dont have a ton of amps i can draw without running new power and id like to avoid that for now.

And you guys are right it was a cheapo ipower ballast. Cant believe it caused so much issues... i have several lumetek also and i dont even want to use them at this point. I just want zero rfi so the neiborhood isnt pissed off at me

Im assuming that on a magnetic style this wont really be too much of a issue? I mean, yea it may crap out sooner than if it was on a 12/12 but ill still get a couple years out of it, an they are only 100 a pop. If im missing something clue me in, im thankful for the insite

Faraday cage.

Get the ballast as far from cable lines as possible.

Run good high quality quad shied rg6 cable lines in the house.

Get a better light.

Us an old am radio to make sure its your ballast.
Thanks for the pointers, what do you think about the plan to use magnetic ballast on a flip box, eye hortilux bulbs, magnum xxxl reflectors.

I will never use the ipower ballast again. I know for sure it was the issue, the cable guy confirmed it 100%
