Rinsed off my dry ice hash and now it's greener than ever! need some boss-ass advice!

Okay, I need someone who is boss-as-fuck to advise me on this one! I got a tip from an RIU member that is never on RIU, but knows her shit backwards and forwards, but I'm having an issue here.

I was told that if my dry ice hash came out a little green, which it does sometimes, that I could put it in my 25 micron bag or in my drying screen and give it a rinse with some r/o to clean it up. This made a shit ton of sense to me.

My most recent grow partner refused to let me waste any water that came in contact with the hash, insisting it could be made in some herb tea, I told him herb tea is stupid and so is his idea, ans I'm pretty sure I was right about that.

Here is my bag, it is some knock off, but had good reviews, better than the last POS I had.

What happened:

I put 1oz of hash into my 25 micron 1 gallon bubble bag, I put that into a bowl and put 4 cups of r/o through it, not all the hash was saturated, and felt like i didn't see enough green in the water, I went ahead and ran the water back through, and finally decided to add 4 more cups of water, run it through, and let it sit in the water like i would with bubble hash. I had a lot of plant matter and hash floating on the surface, so I figured letting it sit out was the best way to let my hash settle at the bottom, and not make a mess inside my small 1 gal bag.

I let it sit for too long i think, about an hour, watched 2-3 episodes of Archer. Funny as fuck. Anyways, when I come back, I pulled out my bag and my kief was green, I mean, super green, and I don't know if that's because it is wet and looks greener, or if I leached all my hash out!

Here is the hash after it was rinsed, resting on the drying screen. Looks awfully green to me. Why did I even use a whole oz on something untested?

To support my theory, my rinse water is super gold; I mean, beautiful amber hash gold, the color I wish my hash was!

The tip I got from a friend is super reliable, but she did not specify much about rinsing besides 25 micron and r/o to get clean hash with less plant matter in it. I'm wondering, was it soaking it in the water??

Anyone have any experience with this? Is this all normal, or am I kind of fudged here and have to evaporate 8 cups of water in the sun? I included some pretty pictures so chaknow what I'm sayin!

Oh, and here is a pic of my boss-as-fuck poor-mans honeycomb. I'll be making a thread on how to make this later this week. No vacuum purge needed, and it's fucking amazing, and totally easily to handle, as you can see!

If you're making dry ice hash then just use the same progression of bags as bubble hash. I have watched sesvral videos on YouTube of people making dry-ice has and have almost always been left wondering.............if you ahve a set of bubble bags, whether 5 or 8, why not use them all as when making bubble hash? Doesn't make any sense. I have seen 2 ways to decrease the amount of green in your hash. First, do NOT shake the Bejeezus out of your bags. Just a gentle shaking or side-to-side will make piles of sweet hash that looks like blonde Lebo. Method 2, Scoop up your kif and run it through again, dry not wet, in a few bags to screen it out. Since most folks don't like anything finer than the 43 micron, I would start at the 160 and then 120, 93 and so on and stop after the 45 or maybe the 73 micron. Here's a good link.

Normally when I'm making hash for smoking I would use a the size bag that I know makes the best blonde hash for the strain, depending on the trichome size. But this time I decided I was going to use it for cooking. Ultimately, I felt that the flavor was still too green for cooking with hash, so I wanted to clean it up.

What I really want to know, is if all my best product is floating in that water? I know that thc is water soluble, but not by much. I know normally it would be impossible for water to leech my thc, but when you use dry ice, you freeze and shatter everything, including a large portion of your trichomes, that is why I'm afraid the content just floated and leeched through the bag and into the water. Same idea as bho, broken down to the point where the mesh size of the sieve doesn't really matter anymore.

Is it possible?

I mean, props to you and rep for knowing that you need the proper size screen and gentle agitation for quality dry ice hash, but not quite what I'm looking for.

I'd like to note that I'm fairly experienced in all forms of growing and hash making, it is not often I'm on the receiving end of advice. I am in no way trying to sound like a know it all, but basics can be skipped over on this topic, I've thought it all over.

I'm looking specifically for advice from those who use the dry ice method and rinse their hash to clean it up.

That's the problem with all the green in your hash. Your material is to crushed up. I have a rotary hash screen. It's the same with that, the bigger you can keep your material the better quality the hash will be.

So here is a status update! 24 hours on the drying screen and the hash looks much better! It is now more of a brown sugar color, and it's stickier than before. So I'm optimistic at the moment!

I just burned a bowl, and I feel like it's much better, but I just woke up from a nap so maybe my tolerance is a little low. It's a little wet so it burns a little hot, but I thought it tasted pretty good, despite the taste of a bubbler that hasn't gotten a good scrubbing for a few days. I'll be using a clean pipe for the next burn here in a moment.

The hashy water was kept in a measuring cup over night, and I actually just poured most of it into a casserole dish and placed the casserole dish and measuring cup on a seedling heat mat to evaporate in my sun room, which clearly has no sun in it since it's midnight.

What strikes me as interesting is that the hashy water kind of stinks, just a little tiny bit, after sitting for just 24 hours. That anaerobic compost kind of smell. Room temp was real low so it doesn't make much sense if this was acidic hash water. It makes me think that it's mainly broken trichomes and the different lipids and impurities you don't want in the first place. I did see some trichomes floating around when I agitated the water to inspect it. I'll get a better pic tomorrow, but I even saw some weird floaters in it. So I don't think there is anything in here that will interest me. I've let 5 gal buckets of wet bubble hash sit over night before when I was churning to late into the evening, and they still smelled nice and earthy the next day. I really think this water is mostly the stuff I don't want.

Any which way, I'm still going to evaporate it. Hopefully any stinky stuff growing will die in it's new bright and shallow environment. If not, fuck it, I'm still going to finish it and at least inspect the residue under the microscope. Maybe it'll be a bunch of fat and crap, maybe it'll be solventless hash oil.

Going to come back to this with results as soon I see some notable progress.

My full melt bubble hash starts out green and then turns light brown.
I wouldn't care if it was pink, it kicks ass.
Lol, hopefully this is what's going on here. It's certainly not going to be full melt since I used a 180 micron bag, but hopefully it'll be a lot tastier for cooking with after this. I wish I had the patience to make full melt bubble for myself still, but all these lazy methods have spoiled me!

That's the problem with all the green in your hash. Your material is to crushed up. I have a rotary hash screen. It's the same with that, the bigger you can keep your material the better quality the hash will be.
Oh trust me, I know that's why. I'm just being a big baby about it and rather than accepting my mistake, I'm trying to fix it and act like it never happened. Lol. But hey, I might just learn a great way to get the most yield out of your dry ice hash, and still get great quality. I was just afraid that some sort of unknown factor caused the THC to leech into the rinse water it sat in, perhaps caused by the dry ice pulverizing the material in the hashing process.

Okay kids, update time. I wasn't going to post anything today since I'm so busy, that and nothing has really changed. But having a thread, even a screaming unsuccessful thread, is a lot of fun! So here is some more pictures, and a smoke report! Woot!

So I made this dry ice hash out of a lost stash of trim from my 2011 grow year. I had around 3/4 a pound of trim, and got like 35, or 38 g's, or something of some good and decent hash for cooking. It was a little bit of all my favorites, White Berry, SFV OG, Blue Dream, and sativa dom Chernobyl. About half Indica, half Sativa in the mix.

Here are some pics of my next gen of Blue Dreams. She's the only cut I have left of all the strains mentioned above. Everything almost got shut down for some silly reason, so all I could do was reveg 3 Blue Dream clones and order seeds. They are a little pale from drying out a bit too much the other day, I'm vegging these in my sun room, I just put a lamp on them at night.

Definitely ready for a transplant into 3 gal pots.

Right now I am more sure than ever that I didn't fuck anything up! The hash water lost it's hash smell and basically just smells like hay rotting in water. I have no intention of smoking it, but I siphoned the water out of my measuring cup, leaving just the silt at the bottom in a little water. There was some nasty looking material at the bottom of the measuring cup, looked like a cross between nice golden hash, plant matter, and bacteria that is growing out of control! I'm straining it through a coffee filter right now. I'm sure it's all broken caps, and mostly nastiness. But I want to know so I can give people advise on this without fucking someone over.

My biggest fear was the oils leaching into the water, but now I realize how silly that is! It's god damn impossible to perfectly emulsify water and oil, we all know this from trying to mix up Neem. If there was something in ganja itself to be used as an absolute perfect emulsifier, I'd be growing plants just for that! But we all know there isn't, and my water was just yellow because of whatever impurities it removed from the hash.

SMOKE REPORT:

Just blazed a bowl of the rinsed hash on my most recent crop of Blue Dream. The Blue Dream was a frosty ass bitch this time around, despite the ridiculous stress she went through. I've never had such sad girls, I feel like a guilty wife beater, I'll never mistreat you ever again, baby, I swear it! Lol.

The hash was definitely less harsh than before, I'm not positive on the potency though. My new BHO is fucking ridiculous, and it has me kind of spoiled. I'm going to have to cut back on the honeycomb before giving a fair report. You guys are in for a real treat when I post up my Poor-Man's Perfect BHO thread! Just wait until I'm done with my essay, going back to college is tough! Lol!

Here is another picture of the Blue Dream without the flash on it, just to be fair. Lol, I don't know why I didn't take a picture of the loaded pipe, I must be brain dead from all this "science." :-P

She tastes so dizzamn good, smells like Silver Haze and the little Smarties candies. Hey, psst! ...Just between you and me, when I was a little kid, I got fucking pissed after trick-or-treating and found my bag was stuffed with fucking Smarties. Cheap bastards :cuss: !! I wanted peanut butter cups and green apple pops, not god dammed talc and sugar pressed pucklettes! Regardless, I love the way it smells in my buds! :weed:

Now that I've sat on my ass for a bit, I feel pretty fucking stoned. I'd say this shit has definitely kept it's potency, and I got rid of the nasty green. So I'm tempted to call it a success. Next time I will absolutely not be soaking my bag in the rinse water, I'm just going to run a larger amount straight through a smaller amount of hash.

But I won't call this a success quite yet. I think I'll definitely have all my answers within the next two days.

Okay, so here is the final update until the last cup of hash water evaporates.

Everything that washed through so far has been garbage. No hash wasted, and I will start recommending this to everyone who makes dry ice hash. I looked at the coffee filter under the microscope, nothing even worth taking a picture of, a few broken caps and pieces of litter.

I was surprised that although it smelled rotting yesterday, today, the filter at least, smells dank. Not sticky though, nothing but shit in that.

Here is the silt, nothing too interesting here.

Definitely will take a pic of this under the scope if i can once it's done evaporating, surely there will be something of interest in it.

I threw out all the other water except for the cup that had the most silt in it, and this is it. Should be done evaporating by tomorrow or the next day.

Pulled the hash off the screen today, fully dried and smoking smooth.

It's pretty good, I mean, for cooking grade hash it's supreme, but as far as smoking goes it wasn't bad either! I'm very tempted to buy a 45 micron bag and rinse with that next time, doesn't burn as clean and white as I'd like, but it isn't as silky feeling anymore. Still a little silky, I think it'd be worth a 45 micron, I can't just smoke BHO all day, I sleep too much!

Smoked both hashes this time. First the rinsed hash, then my bho, and then both together... and then like a nap for 3 hours. Hahaha.

Blue dreams were real happy today, I've been putting them outside lately for a few hours a day, I know this is a bad idea if I'm going to be finishing them indoors, but this time of year there aren't any bugs for me to really worry about, and the PM isn't much of an issue right now either.

I swear I'll transplant them soon! Lol.

SMOKE REPORT:

So the rinsed hash: It catches fire but it's real good, I think using a coarser screen would make for a better final product, but since it's going to be made into magic bars, I'm not too worried about it this time around. It tastes a lot better, and it smokes great in the volcano, can't do that with the BHO. First rip still gives you that great head rush all good hash does, but it's nothing close to full melt!

Looks good though, right??

Honeycomb BHO: Fucking bomb, simply the best. Bubbles and full melts, I found a bit that didn't purge into perfect honeycomb, still kind of stretchy and pliable, like caramel but not so sticky, still able to handle it. I smoked that up on a the super bowl along with the rinsed hash. Tastes amazing, smells amazing, super easy to handle, and it is sooooooo fucking strong. I've had lots of wax before, but this is by far the best! I modified my poor mans rig today, you guys are going to love it.

honeycomb2.jpghoneycomb3.jpg

And here is the bowl. I cleaned my bubbler just for this smoke test, lol. I thought I was going to smoke this whole bowl all at once and get super ripped and get everything done today... STUPID!! No way dude! It took me like 2 hours to smoke this bowl, and then I was so stoned I fell asleep for 3 hours. Now I kind of put everything I had to do off for the weekend, damn. Either way, fucking good shit!

superbowl2.jpg

Stay tuned everybody! Next post will be the exciting conclusive results of the Shit Silt! And then probably sometime after next wednesday i'll be making the poor-man's BHO thread.

Thanks bro! I sincerely appreciate the comments and rep. Are you growing yet? It's by far less complicated than you'd believe, and requires far less money than your local hydro store will let you know.

Yes, I am growing - just don't have the results & meds that you show in this thread!
I plan to flip the lights on my plants on Sunday. See you in about 10 weeks! Hope to have some quality homegrown buds by then!

I look forward to someday making my first run of bubble hash. Right now just taking some notes & learning. Not sure if I will try a water or dry ice method. Sounds like dry ice is easier, but water get better hash. I have a small grow op, so I will only have a small amount of trim to process. Not sure if I will make a run, or save it for later until I get a larger amount. Time will tell......

Well you will as long as you pay attention to them and keep it clean and simple. Feel free to ask any questions or to post your some pics up, this thread is really just for me to play around with anyways.

But that's pretty much the difference between the two hash making methods, I was thinking of maybe running my hash through a few different screens to see what happens, but I'll probably do that another time. If you are just going to do a small amount for personal consumption, I'd definitely take the time and care to make ice water hash! Or BHO, I'm going to be putting up an awesome thread on it soon and it's so easy and cheap! Definitely the best use of a small amount of trim, if you don't mind the whole idea of using solvents.

I was wondering what you were talking about in the first picture of it all on the 25 micron drying screen...Doesn't look very green to me.

And like everybody else said, the larger you keep your starting material, the less particulate you will have in your hash. Here is some full melt I made about a year ago with whole flowers of Stacked Kush. Try finding even a smidge of leaf matter in it!!

I felt like it was a little too green. The lighting was terrible in the pic so the color didn't really get picked up, but it was pretty green compared to before I rinsed it. I don't know why I didn't have a picture of it before I rinsed it.

I used the really coarse bags because I just wanted max yield for cooking, but the green flavor came out too much in my muffins. The material I start with is all whole trim, I never grind my product before hashing.

I personally don't recommend using whole flowers because I'm bummed out by the low yield I get out of something precious like flowers, but, because almost no green falls off of them, it does make the best product! I'd still let all my flowers dry after the first run, cut them up a bit, and then do a second commercial grade run.

Either which way man, that full melt looks AMAZING! My mouth is watering a little bit. Full Melt Bubble Hash is still my absolute favorite, I recently started doing the BHO though, and love how easy it is, and the high yield.

Everything looks fine to me Boss.
Thank you sir. I think I just wigged out a bit because I've never seen wet hash before that wasn't super awesome, lol.

Appreciate the input everybody! And don't be shy to post your favorite hash run.

Alright, bad news, the hash water got thrown out the other day by my grow partner. He's getting off some crappy meds and he can't sleep because of it, so he's been doing a lot of goofy stuff lately. So sadly we won't know for a while what was in that water exactly.

But it appears safe to do this and I recommend running green kief through a 25 micron bag, whether you rinse it or soak it.

I'm interested in using my entire bag set, and just find out what's faster, dry icing, and then water filtering, or just making bubble hash from the get go. I'm sure bubble hash will give you a better product because it doesn't pulverize your material, but I'd like to see for myself. I'd also like to try specific bag combinations for commercial cooking product. Still want a 45 micron bag, though.

Tomorrow I'm going to start my BHO thread, and I'll be sure to leave a link for it here. I've been looking at it and noticed that it really makes an interesting combination of honeycomb/amberglass, and I'm pretty sure I know why, but I'll figure out for sure in the thread.

and just for the hell of it.

Blue dreams are not so perky tonight. I think I overwatered them and the same day I let them get a bit too cold. It was 53f outside at like 3 or 4pm yesterday and I pulled them in, I didn't know it got so low. Definitely too cold for small plants.

I may have overfeed in an effort to compensate for underfeeding, but they'll show me in a few days. If so, just a light watering with r/o once they dry up. I had a whole shit load of old H&G nutes, I didn't want to throw them away, but that will show me. This feeding was with some fresh Flora Duo, a product I'm iffy about, but it's super easy to use.
