I do not agree. Even if/when marijuana becomes completely legal there will still be a very strong profit motive for some people to steal water, electricity, habitat to undercut the bottom line of legal growers.
I can still source moonshine - in quantity mind you. No tax stamps, affordable, nearly lab grade quality ... No real market per se.

It's a good case in point on some levels of the fact it is reduced from being mainstream though. Not everyone is clamoring to put up a stihl in their barn or run the stuff on dirt roads into dry areas. And oddly enough, ATF still looks for them.

Every legal substance that is over-regulated or taxed has its black market. Most dont want to dwell in back alleys and all the rest. Market is smaller, etc. Simple truths most people would rather not allow into their world view.

.......snip..........I mean not everyone gets the benefit of these med laws, in which case those people have to break the law...snip.....
No one has to break a law, even an unpopular one. There are other options like moving to a medical state or sublimating that energy into lobbying for a medical law in a non-legal state.

. . .. should be a crime
Luckily it is :D

It's people like this that ruin it for everyone. I'd like to grow one or two plants, just for myself, not to sell. Just something for me, for medical purposes, (or recreational, it's really no one's business). But I can't, because the government says no. Even though my state says I can. Blah.
You are right the dichotomy between state legal and federal illegal leaves all of us in an untenable situation.

OMG you're right. I never thought of that. But wait...if everybody can grow their own and no one is buying it...there's no profit in it really. Wait. What?
LOL too funny! Wait what :) but who can't cook food? Yet restaurants flourish. There will always be people who for convenience or specialty interest etc.... will always buy. So frankly even when Cannabis is completely legal there will be a very good market for it. Probably even bigger and more profitable than the current underground.

However it will most likely put the really crappy growers out of business which is a good thing. But the guys like collective gardener that put out a really top shelf product will make an even better living because the general populace will finally be exposed to enough different types they will start recognizing quality. Recognition of quality won't be the purview of only a very few. Which will reward the best growers. Imagine Cannabis tastings :) mmmmmmmm cool. I hope for full legalization but doubt I will see it in my life time.
