River Rock for Hempys?

i wouldn't recommend it since they don't wick at all, so they need to be watered very often so the plate they sit in will have to be removed emptied every time. it could work with flood/drain though.

Doesn't perlite act the same though, doesn't really hold water? The hempy has the 2" reservoir at the bottom of the rocks, so i was thinking that it could work the same way.

Perlite is very light and has pores that do retain water, it's really cheap as well. I wouldn't do it either.

Usually perlite is mixed with vermiculite in a 3 to 1 ratio.
The perlite is for aeration and drainage and the vermiculite holds water.
