Rockwhool issue!!!

So ive been noticing that my plants really arent growing that well. I went with the rock wool method which was to soak your seeds in a damp paper towel then zip lock in a bag and let them sit for about 2 days until sprouted. I've done this and now planted in my rubber maid grow box which is about 3-4 feet. I soaked the rock wool in some distilled water and planted my pods three days went by and one sprout rotted in the middle and broke in half basically just dead and brown. one sprout does look like its doing good only the top leaves are out the rock wool maybe I watered them to much i thought the rock wool had to be damp almost all day so i just got them wet here and their but im down to watering once a day when i found out better information.

My question is should i water less? should i start by using pH water.

my set up is
two 20Gal rubber maid buckets from wallmart. about *$ each

two 4inch heavy duty fans from wallmart 6$

roll of mylar 13$

volcano rocks x2 bags 8$

bag and half perlite 13$

northern lights seeds x5 feminized free

two, 2 and half gal buckets
which i hammered some things i got from family dollar that screwed in so i could LST tie them they looked pretty handy and only cost a 1$

two 100watt CFL's with a silver dome which hangs on the top middle of my rubbermaid box so about 1 and half foot high from my plants temp and humidity looks about good i have my box in my aced cooled room so about 70-80f 40-50 for humidity ill post some picstures and add a journal for anybody who is interested in how keeping in touch :joint:

I use rapid rooter plugs and hydroton, but did a lot of research when thinking of going to rockwool. The main issue I saw was that rockwool was so absorbant, it only needed to be watered once to twice a day. Next time try this:

Soak rockwool in 5.0 ph water for 24 hours. Use a salad spinner (Walmart $4) to remove water (do not squeeze them. It will remove air pockets) to remove water and resoak in 5.6 5.8 water. Dry cubes out till their weight loss is 80% of a soaked cube. The cube is now ready. Dont use distilled water and you want the cube fairly dry to increase root growth as they look for water. I bet you had root rot issues due to the cube being too wet. A good post to read is by Al. B. Fuct on the hydro board at the top. Most info from above is from him. While he does grow from clones, he has a lot of good info concerning rockwool cubes. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. i went with a different method i was reading some other post and it was said if you had some kinda stryophome cup. and filled it up with all perlite and poked some small holes in the bottom just big enough so the water would drain out and you could see the roots after that it said to cut around the very bottom leaving the plant in the cup then placing it in your 2-3gal bucket i did this with the one survivor and it seems to work good i took the girl out and put her in a rockwhool cube which seems to be working great now leaving are very green and pretty looking its about 2 inchs tall i water it everyday now with 5.5 ph water
