which member was busted? it could of been from posting pics but i doubt it, most likely they got him another way.i dont think the police are tracking down growers from this site they have to many other things do deal with like people actually telling them the spotted there neighbours grow room etc ...

It is super easy for law enforcement to get your address from your ISP once they know your IP. I would not be posting pics if I was illegal.

It would be a huge waste of time to track down a ip address fro
somone after he/she posted pics. But to do would be relitvly easy for government agencies to do considering most users have only basic computer systems and firewalls. That said if the government really wanted to get us they would everyone on this site could b monitored and tracked down. To much of a waste of money, even though they waste billions of dollars already on this so called war on drugs. I would like to know the real reason why this guy got busted!

Google your freedom ip address i used it long ago if i remember correctly it constantly changes your ip so its harder to track. I'll see if i can get more info later hope it helps

Jesus there were at least 15 pages when last I checked and it was definately determined in the damn news story that it was a TIP meaning someone narked on him that he was talking to and furthermore the guy openned his mouth to cops. It had nothing to do with someone tracking an IP address calm down and stop being paranoid. If the FBI really wanted to find who the hell you are. You can mask all you want and proxy off a zombie pc or BNC connection but if they thought you were a terrorist they would be able to back track as many hops as you can fake. They are not worried about people posting pics and talking on a world wide website period, this guy was narked on, anything afterwards can be used as evidence. Be cautious as with any site and do not give real info in your registration as far as home address and such, most ISP are not going to just give out the information about thier subscribers just because someone is asking. They are more worried about who is uploading copywritten content than people on forums who arent talking about screwing kids and stalking people. Just dont put things in your pics that could identify you as it would be evidence in long run if a girlfriend printed something that you posted or printed what you typed. You dont need technical advice here, yes there are ways to mask but its not magic, the feds know the tricks as well. Reverse engineering works for both sides so no one is fooling anyone if your really good. Dont piss off people after telling about your grow

Police Learn Identity Of 'Sticky Mango,' Arrest 21-Year-Old

POSTED: Thursday, November 12, 2009
UPDATED: 5:54 pm EST November 12, 2009

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office booking photo of Justin Bauder

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police said it was the photos of marijuana plants he posted on the Internet that got him busted.

Justin Bauder, 21, of Jacksonville, was arrested Wednesday and charged with cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and public nuisance.

Police said they got a tip that someone calling himself Sticky Mango had posted pictures on a Web site of the five marijuana plants he was growing. According to the police report, he also posted step-by-step instructions on how to construct an indoor grow room.

When officers learned that Sticky Mango was Bauder and searched his apartment, they said they found one marijuana plant growing in a closet, along with packaged marijuana, loose buds, a bong, a pipe and a scale.
The arrest report says Bauder admitted he had been growing the marijuana plants for about two months.

Just dont put things in your pics that could identify you as it would be evidence in long run if a girlfriend printed something that you posted or printed what you typed.
Pictures taken with a digital camera contain metadata that can be used to identify you. Date and time, serial number of the camera, make and model, the software used to create the image file, the GPS coordinates of where the picture was taken (on newer cameras) and lots more potentially incriminating data. Read more http://dizzy.ws/underground.security.paper.number.3.the.dangers.of.metadata.txt

Also, I highly doubt that any investigation or police action would be initiated by some pictures on the internet. However if there is already an open case against you, your computer can be seized as evidence and any pictures on your hard drive or that you have uploaded could be used against you in court. Read about encryption for your hard drive.

firstly its really annoying when a thread is started by saying pls dont post useless opinion and bickering, serious educated posts only. Then most of the next 10 posts go along the lines of "huh, who did what? wheres the link?"

Anyway as stated repeatedly, if the police wanted to trace you they can. easily. fact, get over it. There are many ways of making it harder, but that just makes them work harder to catch you. This technology is being used to trace terrorists and organised crime on large scales already.

Secondly IF the law was actually doing this then EVERYBODY would already be busted. The fact that nobody here hardly ever gets busted implies that the law isnt doing it. This leads me to assume that he got busted via other methods, and the internet story is just a coverup (god knows why) or a publicity stunt.

for what its worth ive a university degree in comp sci and 15 years working experience, and this is my opinion.
