root bound ?

in hydro does root bound happen,, im trying to figure out how manyy pots i can put in my five gallon resovoir for these lowriders, since i dont have very many bubblers to use??

never go less than 5gal res per plant. too many issues.

Small res = PH Drifting like crazy, get something larger and it will stay at a much more stable PH as well as temp.

is it ok to start a bunch in a smaller on then transfer them to a bigger one as roots grow?

It is ok.. smaller plants will uptake less nutes, and you won't be running your res with high nute dosages at that point, so your drift should be minimal - a word of advice if you are going to small res.. learn how to properly set your res PH and then don't even check your PH. Don't mess with it.
When you do a top up (maybe at the end of the week) check your res PH.. if it's at like 6.2 and you are adding a gallon.. ph the top up stuff to like 5.5 .. You don't want to do anything but bring it down a little bit. When you are transitioning your nutes from phase to phase, I always clean and change my res.. but I know alot of guys who don't - and it's not hurting them. I used to run 2 and 3 plants out of 10 gallons.. 2 plants was always better than 3. I would get pretty much the same weight but the plants in the res with 2 plants always seemed to do better. Grow bigger, faster, fatter..

do not put more than one plant per res, they all dont have the same needs and more than likly there will end up being a dominant plant that takes over..... dont waste clones/seedlings

tip is keep the resevor clean and watch your nutrient temps

After re-reading the thread.. I change my mind.. you aren't getting that good of advice..
MY POINT is -you should try to have at least a 5 gallon res or bigger. The amount of water acts as a buffer for the PH fluctuations.
Not per plant... that's insane. I made the reference to 2-3 plants per res when I was doing DWC grows.. and I would grow 2-3 plants in a tote.

Check out the link in my sig.. I am pioneering shallow res growing. I was growing 5 plants in one gallon of nutes in my grow from last year - took it to harvest and got about a lb a light. (and I had about 30 plants in that grow and took 2 lbs plus and lots of trim and popcorn off 2000 watts).. plants were green right to harvest as well.

One plant per res is great advice - if you are growing.. one plant.

sorry miss red the post dwc still only recomend one plant per container 5 gallon water farm is the way to go. i guess tote grows are ok for small yeilding but lots of plants

I was growing 12 plants in 6 totes at one point and getting almost 2 lbs under 2000 watts doing 2 plants in each 15 gallon tote.

2 1/2 ounces of bud per plant.. not "small yeilding" by my definition.. but to each their own.

thanks for the replies, i just dont see how having say '5 plants in a 5 gallon resovior would effect results it if the water was phd, and kept the ppm of nutrients consistant, and changed water as normal..

my plants take in more than a gal per plant per day at certain stages.

It shouldn't. It's just easier with say 10-15 gallons to maintain.. you can run it for a week without having wild PH swings... just top up with ph'ed water and mix well and you won't see anything bad happen.My plants drink alot more when heat is an issue. What are your temps?
