Root is coming through a drainage hole. Problem?

Like I put my container in a zip lock bag half way just to be more convient with measuring the ph runoff. I noticed last night that a little root made it's way out. My pot is made of plastic so i don't think if I just dropped it in a bigger pot that it would work that way. I would cut the put in the corners so I could just open the sides for transplanting. Do you think the root poking out is a problem?

not enough info

how big is the cup and how long has it been growing and what lights are you using

roots finding thier way to the holes is normal, can be a sign of root bound starting to happen time to transplant but not always

Cataclismic,

I agree with "riddleme" that we need more info to advise you on a specific course of action. I will how ever say that having the pot sit in a plastic bag sounds like a bad idea. You don't want the pot sitting in standing water.

Having a root sticking out the bottom of the pot is not an immediate life threatening situation but it does sound like may be an upcan to a larger pot wouldn't hurt.

Give us some more info and we'll be able to advise you better.

Well I'm using a pc grow box and I've transplanted once before from a dixie cup to a plastic container. I guess I could transplant but I don't know how to get it out and I'm afraid to like damage the roots but cutting the plastic.

Cataclismic,

Plants are a lot tougher than you think. Personally I think there's some advantage to roughing up the root ball (a little bit) during transplanting because it stimulates new root growth.

As far as getting it out of the pot it's in you just put your hand over the top of the pot with the stem between two of your fingers, then turn it upside down and spank it's bottom gently. It should pop right out.

Of course I see where you say you're growing in a pc grow box so may be you don't want to transplant it to a bigger pot. Being as I've never tried to grow in that small and restricted of space I don't think I can really advise you of what it might be best for you to do.

roots growing out drainage holes is normal everyone that grows in soil will get this "even the non rootbounded plants" if u dont have the space to get a bigger pot just leave it your plant will be fine , also u can snip them off b4 transplanting to if its to hard
