Hey guys i have another problem =(

Im doing SOG style grow with no veg, and im using 6in pots.
But today i noticed roots comming out from the bottom of the pot.
Is this ok? What should i do?
Most sog growers that iv seen all use about 6in pots.
Help please =)

just add soil to those roots wich is coming out and dont water them with big squirt. they should go back into bottom ... repot your plants into biger pots.

Mine come out all the time...its no bigee at all. They will get light pruned on their own. Don't sweat it. I usually get roots poping through the drain holes on mine like 2 weeks after they are transplanted...and I've yet to have a problem.

transplant and use larger pots in the future... while it is no big deal that the roots are coming out the bottom it does mean that you are getting root bound and that will stunt the growth and hurt your yield.

when you pull your root ball out of the pot take a look and see if the roots are fairly even throughout the soil or just knotted up at the bottom.... if they are even, you are watering properly. if they are knotted at the bottom and the top is clean soil you are over watering.

Oops...guess I forgot to ask if it was soil....I'm in hydro...theres no issues with root bound on mine....if I kept them in the same pots for 4 months I might have an issue...but using clones and a 2 month flower sched....I've never had any issues.

er, yeah, that makes all the difference... in soil, my advice stands... in hydro it is not an issue at all.

err..um..yeah deff....but still if she's sog'n why does she need bigger pots...when like she said there are people all over here that use 6 inchers. I guess it all depends if you do 12/12 straight from clone...or if you let em veg for a while.

because different grow styles and strains have different requirements... if the roots are getting root bound larger pots are required for soil grows.

I think I just figured out what we are missing here. We never discussed exactly how much roots coming out the bottom. Because if i remember correct plants send down a long root first and then it starts to brach out. In the wild it grows as far as it wants to(but either way its farther down than a container will allow) If its just a few shoots that have made their way to the drain holes, then it isn't "root bound" But if they are like little bushes of roots coming out everywhere then it is....or wait ...I think I'm confusing my self now..lol Does this make any sense? If not..enlighten me please

it does make sense.... and is valid... i guess i wasnt clear enough about the checking for root bind ;)

obviously, even if things are root bound if the plants are in the last week of their grow it just doesnt matter much either... in fact, it could be attributed to a very efficient grow style at that point... using all that is available with no waste ;)

the thing is though, the bigger and healthier the root ball the bigger and healthier the buds are.... so, personally, i would rather use pots that are too big than too small.

Thanks for the help guys
Im doing SOG in hydro with hydroton rocks as my medium,
The roots comming out are just a couple strands from each pot.
But from the looks of it, thats not a problem?
Thanks guys i can sleep easy now!

in hydro it isnt even a concern from what i gather... take a look at Earl's hydro grow and you will see his roots extend for a couple of FEET past the grow area and into his res... like pig tails :o

Ahhaa..it is hydro. After doing all this talking I decided to lift one of my containers up...and yeah my roots have a nice little bit hiding underneath it. So yup its no big deal...especially since they get watered so often.
bfq...ok good it did make sense!
