Sacraficial anode

I was sat watching "QUEST" the other week, Mighty Ships to be precise and they showed these sacrificial anodes that they place on the bottom of ships that attract rust and slow down the decay of ships hull. Being a bit stoned, actually I was baked.... again, I wondered if anything similar is possible with regards to salt build up in my tanks.

Just wandering..... fookin hate cleaning out salty tanks.

The process is called electrolysis. Any vessel made of steel or really most any ferrous metal, that uses electricity in its workings ( motor electrical systems, generators ) will fall to this process. The anodes are made of a material that reacts to electrolysis much faster and keeps the corrosion at bay on the more dense materials ( hull and engine parts) , however, these materials will not be beneficial and will end up actually being toxic in your res. Plastic, stainless steel and glass should be the only materials your nutes ever come in contact with.
