Salt buildup

How are you supposed to address a salt buildup problem? Should you flush regularly or something? I heard that was stressful for the plant and haven't had a need to flush thus far but I know there is definitely salt build up in my soil.... my pH run off is extremely high in comparison to the water I'm feeding. I've also been using CalMag which I know is basically salt.

So, are you supposed to ignore it until you have problems or what? :-? My plants are 30 days in flower and extremely healthy.

I would flush. I had a build up just recently i flushed with twice the amount of water i would normally use. Two days later i did it again, it seemed to help.

yea Bygon, use clearez, flush with that, then run a calmag only water mix.. then get back to normal.

how do you know you have salt buildup? you getting nute lockout? whats your soil? whats your ph going in, and coming out?

No not having nute lockout, everything is fine so far. Just haven't ever flushed and don't have a ton of run off when I water. I tested the run off yesterday and it was around 5-5.5 whereas my tap water comes out around 8.0... after adding nutes it's about 7. I don't know why my run off would be so acidic other than a salt build up and I would hate to start having issues this late in the game.

I need to get medicated in a minute, but isnt 8 a little high on the ph scale? I thought plants in hydro like lower PH like 5.5-6 and in soil plants like 6-7ish Your tap water seems up there. I dunno I could just have the wrong info, Ive never checked my PH of my water- plain, nutes added or runoff though. I have well water and around where I live it is very good for everything :P Figured i would be ok lol.

If your not having any problems I wouldn't flush, no sense putting the plant through unneeded stress. from what ive read to get ur soil ph u take the ph of the water going in and the ph of the water coming out, the soil ph is in the middle of those two numbers. I don't remember where I read that though so it might not be fact, but given that your not having any lockout issues i'd say its a safe bet that your soil ph is within the correct range

Think is this isn't a hydro grow... City water usually has a high PH (around 8) and can be dropped by adding 1 1/2 teaspoons per gallon of white distilled vinegar. PH should hover around 6.2-6.6. Nutes seem to drop the PH due to acidity but depends on what you are using. I have found there is no need to use so much. There is no secret to growing. Just watch the PH, temps, humidity, watering and for bugs. Also, watch out for standing water on and IN your buds. Will mold quickly if no air movement.

How does flushing put a plant through stress? Explain that because it logically doesn't make sense. Ideal to flush EVERY 4 weeks to prevent anything. Better to be safe than sorry the old saying goes.

it causes stress because its taking all nutrients out of the soil which can cause deficancies and over saturating the soil which might lead to root rot or gnat infestations. Flushing is something that should be done only if neccasary to correct a problem when other solutions have failed not something you do to an otherwise healthy plant

I was just saying both Ph ranges on hydro and soil. He or she said that the Ph of the water going in was 7 which from way I understand is OK. The run off was 5.5. I am not totally sure if it going from 7 in to 5.5 out is a big deal or not since it is withen the range of both styles of grow. I am new though so I probably am wrong.
