Same clones for years

I have been running the same 3 genetics for years now, I would say maybe 4 years, they have had some very rough times as I almost lost them a few times, I’ve re vegged, had mothers in dark for days even weeks at a time, brought some back from being right on the brink having only a single fan leaf, just completely neglected only to be brought back and flowered again! And every time I flower them I would still consider them winners, just amazing bud better than anything around. I just saw a video from a reputable grower on YouTube stating that this behavior will ruin genetics and you will have trouble with future clones forever, just curious on your guys thoughts! Eventually you will get genetic drift, if your cloning generation after generation and not be able to finish a bloom it might take 60 runs to get you there but I would recommend doing a seed run sometime soon. Your genetics are your reputation and calling card.
Mother's can only live so long and the older they get the weaker their genetics will become.
You can sustain a perpetual grow for a long long time 20 years maybe, but eventually your gonna be set back to square 1.

Holy crap 20 years yeh I’ve heard stuff like that, I do take new clones for new mothers tho, my line of thinking is if they root fast they are “healthy” and my last round of cloning were my quickest rooting yet, I’m nervous about going from seed because these clones I have now were very meticulously phenohunted and I know that takes a lot of time

Also what do you mean by not able to finish a bloom? I got there bloom times down to the DAY lol

If you got winners keep them for sure keep doing what your doing, but as time gose on and more people grow their own the genetics will be worth way more then the smoke. If your in this for the profit I say you got about 5 years before seed will be more valuable and easier to move then the smoke. If your growing for personal use you can probably stock pile enough to last your life before you have to worry about it

I mean they will start to die off mid flower, dose not mean tour need a new care regiment the genes will go retarded and not have the coding to go full life cycle. See about a doze threads on here of people running perpetual for years then one day everything gose haywire and nothing they do will keep thier clones alive past about week4

What I red some time ago, grow conditions doesn´t affect genetics. Plant in time can suffer from natural genetics mutations, which are not mostly beneficial. So it degrades slowly in time, natural way. It takes years to get some variability, i guess.

Ha they totally used to but they still went 8 weeks and was amazing flower, but the reason for that was getting used to my very strong Scorpion Diablo and the demand for cal mag, this run I finally got feeding and Vpd down and they are going stronggggggggger than ever, I plan on running some clones these local dispensaries sell to see how they turn out, want to do a seed run as well any seed recommendations? I do kind of miss the vigor that seeds have

Yes this is absolutely what I do, I actually just tossed one last night, sometimes I’ll flower it, sometimes I toss but I always take new clones for new mothers

Too bad that breeders messed everything up decades ago when they bred all the smell (and flavor) out of the strains to try and keep their grows covert. Just goes to show that nature had it right with all the landrace strains that were genetically stable and consistent from seed.

I heard someone say "When you grow outdoors, you grow WITH God....When you grow indoors, YOU are God."

A lot of breeding simply for bag appeal, I remember years ago getting “haze” that was honestly pretty ugly but when you taste it woahhhhhhh, would love some stuff like it today idc if it takes 14 weeks to flower lol

Genetics don't mutate in a few years to completely change a plants phenotype. I mean, look at trees that live for hundreds of years and all look kinda the same. No mutations in sight.

What does happen is accumulation of endophytes. Bacteria, fungi and even viroids livd in the cells. Parasitising the host and weakening the expression of desireable traits. With prolonged life they become more abundant and eventually the mother is useless. Hobbyists can only chuck ir and start over. But if you're willing to pay 10 k you can get it cleaned up.
