Schrooms in the Tampa Bay Area

Anyone willing to help a newb find some non-active farm areas? I'm not wanting to get shot, but I'll be damned if I've had any luck looking around pine trees in parks :)

Thanks!

Go down twords landolakes around 41 in the New Tampa area. There are fields everywhere, you just have to look around.

Or you could go by the incinerator off Hicks RD in Shady Hills, that's Pasco County, or Hernando. 75 to 52, take 52 west until you get to hicks road. then turn Right and drive for ever, there are fields full of shrooms on both sides of the road by the incinerator.

Landolakes and zepherhills has tons of fields too!

Just go look around bro.

Like big boobs. Light grey on the outside with a brown nipple. They also have a little skirt around the stem and if you break the shroom it will bruse blue.

I used to live off Little RD and 54. Had very good luck with the fields closer to Land' O Lakes/I-75, US-19 is nothing but commercial and residental, no fields anymore. I remember their was a little field behind Vetrans Village and The River that would get packed full of mushrooms around September!

I have a buddy that would point out fields along 54 up towards land-o-lakes that he would go shroomin in....said he had to run from a few farmers...LOL

Would they be growing this time of year? I'll make a trip that way if there's some species to study ;)

My understanding is that they sprout after a good rain....Like the day after...someone correct me if I'm wrong....Thats what my bud told me:)

I know when the temps drop in September/October and it rains for a few days, the fields are packed. Haven't been out there in over 5 years though!:peace:

So anyone know if it's a good time to go hunting? I have some non-edible mushrooms popping up in my area and think maybe all the rain has em sprouting

Well, I took a drive to look around after all the rain we've had, but when I got to hicks rd I could not find anything refering to an incinerator. I did pass a large park and also an old over-grown barn that looked promising, but there were posted signs regarding trespassing and a lot of homes nearby. If you can give me a little more specific directions, I'd appreciate it. It was about an hour driving there and I'd like to make better use of that much gas on my next trip out :) Thanks!

That place with the barn sounds like the spot to find them. I don't remember a bunch of houses. If the barn is on the left side of the road that's it. It's been around 5 or 6 years since we went out there though!:peace:

What I really want to find is an area that was ONCE a farm and now deserted without tresspassing signs, etc..I have checked some areas slated to become neighborhoods, but no luck so far...but then it might just not have been the right time to see em.
