BM93 Hens and Chicks Peony Poppy ( A floral variety of Papaver )
Very unusual flowerheads with a central flowerhead surrounded by smaller flowerheads (chicks). Curiously shaped seed pods, great cut or dried, often return by self seeding.
20mg Package of about 40 seeds, $2.95

Yo, scroggy, when do you top the bud? As soon as the pod starts bolting? Or when it gets tall enough and starts to bend up and open?

i don't top....
i score, if that's what ya mean, pip. when crown on top of pod stands straight up, its ripe. i score it in the afternoon, and the next morning i scrape off the goodness. after i've got all my sap, i chop. i crush up pods, and chop up straw (the stalk) after drying them, and then i make teas. after that runs out.........i dream of next year......lol.

... i don't draw a line between food and medicine out there.
This has been rattling in my head since I saw it. Not sure why this rings my bell per se, or why I got fixated on it, but I wanted to say thanks for the wonderful thoughts it created while working outside yesterday for sure.

Though I should probably say I'm one of those people who tastes everything ... especially my plants. I know it was learned from watching my grandfather and his father do it with soil on farm/ranch land, etc. Still ... when I see a healthy plant, especially one that would be labeled medicine, I often dont see the difference.

Have to admit I dont always think of adding it to salads like I should. Doesn't blend as well as I'd like for sure. But I still nibble on them none-the-less.

Cheers and gratitude.
