Highs have been in the mid 60s and lows in the mid-to-high 30s the past few days, we've had a seriously big Arctic train of cold air passing by. Today I have a run I've gotta make, so I'm breaking out the long underwear and sweaters. I like being cozy and warm on the bike, but I hate how bundling up in layers makes just looking side-to-side a fucking pain in the ASS, it hurts my neck. I need a Gator (or whatever that thing is that would replace a scarf.) And some fucking heated gear, damn it! Even just a vest would make a world of difference.

Oh MAN! I think Dave's got all the winter weather riding gloves stashed somewhere, too. fuck, I've gotta find the gauntlets or you guys may see me riding with work gloves.

Hotay! I've got some pix to put up today. Miss Papaya is turning purple, her leaves that is. CIxBB remains green, and is getting rather fat. No. 15 of The Bagseed Girls is still growing new pistils! The Conquistador ladies have quite the lovely fruit scent, as does Miss Papaya, very noticable and getting more so every day. I prefer this to the stink of skunk, quite frankly.

Alright, so.. let's see if I can keep this in order.
1: No. 4 (a Bagseed Girl)
2: No. 4
3: No. 4
4: No. 8 (a Bagseed Girl)
5: No. 15 (the one still growing fat white pistils)
6: No. 15
7: No. 15 (btw, I cloned this gal)
8: No. 15
9: Conquistador #13: Fire Pistils
10: Conquistador #13: Fire Pistils
11: Conquistador #13: Fire Pistils
12: Conquistador #13: Fire Pistils
13: Conquistador #16
14: Conquistador #16
15: Conquistador #16
16: Conquistador #23
17: Conquistador #23
18: Conquistador #23
19: California Indica x Big Bud (her stakes are showing)
20: California Indica x Big Bud
21: California Indica x Big Bud
22: Papaya (her leaves are turning PURPUHL! Man it's purty! And she stinks like fruit, too!)
23: Papaya
24: Papaya (each day getting more purple-y, too)

:D Do you know how long it took me to upload those pix? I don't resize, just save 'em as jpg's. Then I have to upload individually. I spooged all over the attachments.

Jesus Christ, where are my manners? Thank you, pm. :D

Thank ye, green.
those are pretty. those girls have got to be confused and pissed that it's getting so cold outside!
They're all getting red/purple leaves now, even though the nights and days are warming up a bit. I am assuming it's something akin to fall coloration and not some deficiency or overage. Otherwise I'll have an urge to fix it, and we don't need me killing anything so soon before harvest. :D

Seamaiden.... The only way to truly know how a particular strain will go, is cut some early and take the others at least two weeks later (min). By the way, your plants are looking excellent - Good Job.
.
I've got some Skunk #1's, I've been growing since the late 70's. Over the years, I've hand picked the best girls and pollenated them with my strongest males. Outcrossed once with Seni Seeds Skunk # 1, then back crossed to the original line. They have consistantly been like this - cut at 6 weeks of flowering - more of an up high which motivates you to do things, cut at 8 weeks - more of mix - nice mellow head / body high, less desire to do things, more of a live in the moment (eurphoria). Cut at 10 plus weeks, heavy eyelids, loss of desire to do anything and a power nap is coming - wheter you like it or not.
.
With some strains timing really matters, with others like NL or AK-47, you get the same affect regardless of when cut, or color of resin.
.
You just have to cut, label and try them to know for sure. It's work, but I'm always willing to do testing - in the name of science. I find keeping notes helps allot too, especially as I get older. LOL...& LOL again..... another sign of age......

Ohso, thank you. This is what I've been thinking I might want to do as the amber trichomes appear. I've got one girl that I'm thinking is approaching readiness, she began flowering on or around August 18th-22nd. One other girl began flowering back in the first week of August, and is only just getting some amber.

The others, OH MY GOODNESS! The scent, and the coloring of the Papaya is really out of this world deep purple (finally did the double vision whammy--put on my reading glasses AND used the loupe--I saw EVERYTHING!). The same could be said of the pink/red-pistiled Conquistador (all three really smell lovely).

Thank you for the compliments, the HELP, and for confirming for me that the little plan hatching in my head is right on track. :)

Seamaiden... You are welcome. I knew you were up to the task. Cutting, labeling, drying & best of all test smoking..... (that's my favorite part) That Papaya sounds & looks wonderful.
.
You have earned your stripes & all who see your name will know - you're and OG (Organic Grower). Keep up the good work & keep carrying the torch.......or as my brother grower Catincombs says " Keep the Faith ".
I like that.

Well I guess everyone has their theroies but until empirically shown everything is just conjecture. What a great idea Ohso to test out the different stages of trich color to see what the high results. I love the suggestion to write it down and label the cures, lol. One question. Ive noticed the ripening of the flowers tends to trigger off the weather/light cycle in addition to the genetic life cycle too. Have you noticed extensions or shortening of the maturity cycle based on the weather patterns (i.e., alot of cloudy or cooler days mixed between hotter days extends the cycle). Sorry SM didnt mean to hijack the thread.

Ok wasnt that baked but let me try again. Do you see an extension of the growing season of a strain based on weather conditions? Example: If there is a week at the end of the flowering cycle where it is cloudy and cold for a week then heats up for 2 weeks does it affect the growth period (8 week strain going to 10 weeks). I was also wondering why some strains keep producing pistils when they should be finishing?

Greenthumb111..... Those are great questions. The anwser to them is yes - weather does affect Mary as she heads for the finish line.
.
Temperature has the most dramatic effect. Two or three cold nights, in a row, with temps below 55 degrees, slams the door shut on any new growth, and will speed the finish (by as much as 10-14 days). But the finish will be less than maximum potential reached, so that's not a good thing. Bummer....
.
When I get a few cold nights in a row, towards the end, and a storm front (with rain or even the possibility of rain) starts my way. I call game over. I cut & run, to prevent the possiblity of bud mold.
.
Extra days, of warm weather (temps above 70 degrees & below 85 degrees) are always a blessing. The extra sunlight & mellow temps, ensure full development (maximum gentic potential reached)... Ya...Hoo......
.
Cloudy days will generally only slow down Mary on a one for one basis. I mark off such days on my calendar (to help keep track). Each very cloudy day, delays the finish one day. Mary just sits in suspended animation. A day or two like this does not bother me. A week of heavy overcast, means Mary is not going to finish at maximum potential. Cold weather will come and growth just inches along. Maximum potential will not be reached. Bummer.....
.
So, every plant has a gentic potential that can be reached, but never exceeded. Weather is sometimes a farmers friend, and sometimes our enemy. It's always better to have some, than none. I never risk pounds, trying to obtains a few extra ounces. I've seen greedy growers lose entire crops, from not taking all factors into account. They waited, it got cold & rainy and bud mold, powery mildew and the like got them.
.
Hope this helps...
