If you have seen my other post on the seeds I've been trying to germinate well the seed shell has turned black tried re-scuffing it again and took a chip out of the side to where I could see the root the shell was really hard almost like a stone.

thats weird...you took a chip out of the side of the seed and could see the root inside ?? I've been told before that out of like a handful of seed theres one or two that require light to germ not 100% on that it seems a little counterproductive considering the light will just dry it out more quickly

It won't dry out because it's in damp paper towel and by root, I mean the embryo. IMG_1493.JPG I just hope it germs now.
Also, it's been placed in dark area.

I pre rinse my seeds in a weak bleach/soap water solution for a swish and rinse clean before I
germinate. I have seen duds but no fungus since doing this

never heard of it...do you see a difference in germination
I learned it in a book lol. https://www.rollitup.org/t/animated-suspension-clonal-storage.936996/#post-13434250 I always had good fortune with seeds cracking but I did see some fungus occasionally, and sometimes the fuzz would overcome the germination. I havent seen any fuzz since doing this.
makes sensi to me, who knows how they were stored, or stored correctly here even....fungus is among us, even on seeds

Never seen the fungus but just had 4 seeds hit the dirt that had root tips and 1 came up. My experience has been that once the seed sprouts it comes up from the soil almost all the time. Not these.

1-5% for just a swish then water only a couple times.
really, I'm reduced now to a half spray of clorox bleach spray cleaner in an empty mason jar, watered, wash, rinse, rinse, no problem
my clones get vibrated in a 5% bleach solution for 1 minute, then a 5% 70% iso for the same then rinsed. kills some outer areas need to be trimmed off but the rest stays viable for months and months sealed up. i see no such damage to the seeds I rinse

How warm is your seed mat? Maybe cooked? I've cooked some in my day.. looked the same, black outside mushy inside.. try it without the mat.. maybe..

Heat mat only warms up to one temp and then cools down and so on. I put the seeds in paper towel then place that in a tuppa ware and put in on the heat mat rapped in a towel as a extra barrier.
