hello guys and gurls i have never done this before but my seed was taking forever to pop so i desided to help it by scraping the side of the shell with a blade and nicked the shell where i could see the white of the tap root and placed it back in the paper towl do you think this would of help it or killed it. I'm hoping the tap root will breake though the shell now thanks guys

Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Something I've learned that of the seed isn't strong enough to break out of the shell, it won't that great of a plant

If you hit the tap, you probably killed it. If you germinate it three more days and it doesn't pop, cut your losses.

However, I would say if the seed isn't strong enough to break its own shell, it will probably be a weak, barely viable plant anyway. 3-5 days. No tap after that? Toss it.

well you can see something white not sure if it was the tap root or the beginer leaves can't remember what there called but when i checked on it a while ago looks like a tiny bit more of the husk has come off so i don't know if it's progressing or it was like that when in knicked it. i will give it another day or so and if nothing chages i will toss it the thing is i only had one it was a freebee fem seed. If you guys want me to put up a pic so you can see what i meen i will thanks alot every one.

Pics, yes please, sounds like somthing we would all love to see. The inside will be white in a seed, squash a healthy one and you get a white mush.

Possibly it didnt pop due to pre germination problems like dampening off or similar things.

The odd time ive had a dud freebie, very rarely but seed companies dont do refunds on freebies so it happens now and again. Never had a dud seed on the non freebie part of the order ever though.

hmm.. instead of scratching the husk, i squeeze the seed until it cracks open after 12 hours of it sinking in the shot glass and transferring it to paper towels. i got higher germination rates that way

cause waiting sucks

I never understood that. You need the plant to put forth effort so it doesn't break ground looking like a bag of twizzler dicks. And if you squeeze it wrong, I would think it could destroy the tap. As long as it works for you, I suppose.
