Two feet away is too far, you can most likely bring the bulb down considerably closer. A thousand watt lamp I'd keep a couple feet away, because a 1000 w HID would be significantly brighter and produce much more heat.

A 150\250 watt lamp you should be able to bring down a foot (considering the plants are young) and perhaps closer, e.g. six inches or so. It depends what your room temperatures and air circulation is like as well. Whatever distance you have the bulb from the canopy, in general, if you can hover your hand there (let's say 6 inches from the bulb) and it feels comfortable, not too hot, then it is is probably a safe distance for the plants.

If you have a reflector with a glass lens, sealed\air cooled you can bring the lamp even closer as the bulb will stay cooler (assuming you have an inline fan cooling it).

2 inches tall doesn't need direct intense light. Maybe drop her down to 12-16 inches but not closer. She can barely photosynthesize anyhow. A pair of 26 watt CFLs could veg her for 2 more weeks.

all information in this post is purely fictional and must be taken as such.

lol that's so funny you say that!! i went to walmart and got the 26w cfl and you know those fixtures for turtle's that have a clamp so you can mount it any where and a domed reflector hood got it all and a heavy duty light timer with two plugs for 35 bucks!!! but yes thatks for the post i think you right. Now after the next two weeks should i leave them on and add the hps back?

Sure, you can keep the CFLs along with the HPS when the plant gets big enough to benefit. And when you do get to the point of adding the HPS back in, just start it something like 12" away and slowly lower it over the course of a few days. But you can actually keep a 150w within something like 4-6" when the plant is adjusted to it and you have decent temps/air circulation. The CFLs can be kept around a couple of inches from the plant (just don't let them actually touch or grow into the bulb).

I'd wait until at least the 4th node/set of leaves are out and growth starts picking up before starting to worry about adding the HPS. CFLs really are a great way to get plants started - it will be happy with them for awhile and won't stretch if you keep the CFLs close.

Do I smell bacon or u just that flakie
Possibly a federal-Special-Agent-on-a-deep-undercover-covert-code-worded-intra-agency-task-force-op. But I can neither confirm nor deny whether you, in fact, smell bacon and would ask that you direct all further inquiries to the Department of Public Affairs. Thank you for your concern on this matter citizen.

Best advice I never took was the following: Keep the lights at the recommended levels, water/feed when it needs it, and leave it the fuck alone the rest of the time.

I hope you take this advice and save yourself the misery that I endured. Cheers.
