I have a 1 week old seedling under 2 florescent bulbs, one is cool bulb and the other is a warm bulb. how far should the bulbs be from the seedling? (white widow)

I am also filling up the seedling pot full of water every 3 days. It is a 5"x5" plastic container. Is this ok to do or is it to much water?

The fluorescent bulbs can be a few inches above the plant.

But filling up your seedling pot of water every 3 days is too much. You should be waiting until the pot dries out before you water again. You should be able to tell by the weight of the pot if it needs water.

Set the lights 2"-3" away from the lights. Water when the soil is dry a little way down. Like maybe 2.5", and make sure to have drainage holes in your container. Letting the soil get a bit dry will encourage roots to grow seeking more water.

Thats up to you, I put mine under 24/7 for the first few weeks, and gradually change the cycle to 18/6 for the remainder of their veg life.

I do the same, but your plant will grow faster on a 24 hour schedule. The real benefit of 18/6 is lowered electricity usage, longer light bulb life, and it allows your grow room to cool down a bit. Also note that the 25% more light in a 24/0 schedule wont make the plants 25% bigger.:weed:

I don't do hydro, but my friend has been doing it for awhile. He changes his water 2 times a week to keep it free from fungus and clean. I've read that you can go as long as two weeks, but to be safe I'd change it more often.

Sorry about not being more Pacific. I am taking water out of the fish tank into a water can and then watering my seedlings which are growing in dirt. The only reason I am using the fish take is to keep the foxfarm fertilizer mixed. But I am afraid that the PH can change, are that the foxfarm fertilizer will go bad.

You can still end up with issues if you let your water sit like that too long. I only mix up about as much ferts as I need for one feeding. Evaporation will eventually change the amount of ferts in your water. Also if your fish tank is left open it will get bugs and lint or whatever may be floating around in the air of your grow room. I use two buckets I bought at Walmart for like a buck a piece and change them out about once a week or more. If I notice something in the water I change it.

Thanks so much that is what I needed to know. I new the water started to look funny.:wall: Will the PH stay the same? And if so how long do you think?

I would think the ph would change over time. The best thiing to do is buy a ph tester and test the water often. I got mine at home depot for $10.

K thank you.

Now on to a bigger problem. 1 out of 5 of my feminized white widows died 2 days ago and now one of them is white at the tips. Does anyone have any idea why?
