My first post! Long time lurker. Just placed an order for these seeds and am looking for input. I am just starting to build my grow area. I have a $750 budget. I live in the Midwest where winter is usually cold. Plan on using a tent in my unheated (stays around 45°- 50°F during winter) garage. Please let me know if I am on the right track. Can anyone give recommendations on tent and light setup? I like the convenience of CFL, but it sounds like HID is better. There is a Worms Way near me so I can get what they stock.

Decent results can be achieved with CFL, but it's a lot of work, and better results can be attained easier with other lights.
Given your budget, and the winter temps in your garage, I think a good T5 setup is the way to go.
HPS may be okay to run in the winter, but it would take some air conditioning to keep it cool in the summer.
LED would be great in the summer, putting out little heat and keeping the garage cool, but it wouldn't put out enough heat to keep your plants warm in the winter. You'd end up needing a heater.
T5 splits the difference of the problems listed above, by putting out enough heat to keep your plants happy in the winter, but not enough heat that it would cause you to run an a/c unit for the tent in the summer.

as dude above me said, you can make CFLS work, but me personally, all the hard wrork you put into it is just not worth it with cfls i think...with a 750 budget, i would buy a nice 400 or whatever HPS light and get a nice carbon filter and inline fan and go that route...you will not only getmuch more bud but it will be better quality and quicker...good luck
I appreciate you guys taking time to respond. My grow needs to be semi stealth. Would a 400 watts HPS in a Secret Jardin DR90 do the trick for 2 auto flower plants? I think it's 36" x 36" x 72". Plan to use a 6" cool tube. Will use 3 or 5 gallon pots. This is my first grow indoor. I'd like it to be as simple as possible.

in Your situation better use in first month 80-100w CFL and 100w HPS per plant our 2 plants and next one month put some extra 100-150 HPS / per plant our 2 plants our 1 month 100w CFL per plants and second month put some extra 150-200w HPS per 50w per plant an buy some heater(40-70$) and use heat-insulated materials for grow box creation (80-150$)
