The Japanese sent a posse of balloons carrying incendiary and explosives on them in WW2,the jet stream brought many over the US,causing a couple fires in the Pacific NW as well as a couple civilian casualties.

I'm just providing the Chinese statement here. I know we have crazy weather aloft this year but losing 2 balloons (at least) seems hard to believe.
