Sessions/Trump wants the death penalty for drugs

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions instructed federal prosecutors today to seek the death penalty in drug-related cases whenever it is "appropriate,"

His mandate to prosecutors followed a plan announced by President Donald Trump earlier this week that called for executing opioid dealers and traffickers, and for stiffer sentencing laws for opioid trafficking.

"In the face of all of this death, we cannot continue with business as usual," Sessions said of the opioid epidemic in a memo sent to the country's U.S. Attorneys offices.

"Drug traffickers, transnational criminal organizations, and violent street gangs all contribute substantially to this scourge. To combat this deadly epidemic, federal prosecutors must consider every lawful tool at their disposal," he said.

See, it's simple, kill the drug dealers and the drug problem will go away.

Makes sense right?

At least it makes sense to Duarte and Trump and Sessions.

This is absolutely insane, on multiple levels..

No American should support this, regardless of political affiliation..

Those in congress who do, must be held accountable. Don't forget their names.

Drug related cases? Does that include cases involving addictive pills? Are they going to put pharma companies and doctors in the firing line?

Edit: i go back and forth on the death penalty. There are some moral dilemmas, but in a simplified form it makes sense.

No human, or society has the right to take another person's life.
I don't care if it is OJ Simpson or Saddam Hussein, it is wrong.
I believe in lifetime incarceration, no parole, no TV, and very limited contact with the outside world.
There are too many cases of faulty evidence, lying cops and witnesses, bad lawyers to allow the state to take a person's life.
Lock them up, like forever. but don't kill them, just keep them in a box for the rest of their miserable lives.
That would be justice in my opinion.

If they are falsely convicted they have a chance, true. But what if they are taking a life of someone undeniably guilty of mass murder or some heinous crime? Does the collateral damage of innocent deaths at the hands of the state overrides the hypothetically justified deaths of someone like the Zachary Cruz?
