What are some quick ways to sex plants in hydro? I'm running perpetual ebb buckets and don't want to waste buckets on males

If only there was such a thing, sorry man, just gotta use females. Like cat said, start a mother plant and pull cuttings from her

What's the rule? Up to 2 weeks in flower for clones?
2 weeks is about right for taking clones from flowering plants in a hydro system. If you are sexing, I'm taking it they are from seed. You either need fem seeds, or need some sort of mom plant to take clones from. My method has been to pop reg seeds in dirt, as soon as I can take a clone I take a couple from each one and put those clones into a dome on 12/12 which in 7-14 days will show sex, so I know what plants are female and I will take more clones from those to run in the water system, and get rid of the males. I've also noticed many strains will pre-flower after a couple months in veg and you can easily recognize the females because of the pistils. If they are big enough to take a cutting, you can sex that cutting while leaving everything else in a veg cycle.

So I can take clones and put them in my ez cloner and run 12/12 right away before waiting a week for them to root?

The idea is to take only like 1 or 2 clones from a seedling plant and put those 1 or 2 cuts (from each plant) into 12/12 flower light cycle. In about a week or two, those clone will show pistils or pollen sacks. Now you know what the sex is of the plants still in veg. By this time (1-2 weeks to tell sex) you should be able to take a few more cuts from the seed plants in veg you know are female and at the same time discard the males, or keep one for breeding. Now you have guaranteed females in your hydro system and a couple hopefully different phenos you can use as mother plants so you can pick the one you like the most and keep cloning that, or start all over with a new strain. The clones you use to find the sex will be discarded. That's the fastest way I have been able to sex a plant that is unknown male/female still in veg.

Gotcha. I was just confused because I thought you still had to wait a week for the cut to root before flipping it to 12/12 to sex.

Yeah, the are basically kamikaze clones for the good of the fleet. The absolute fastest way to get guaranteed females in a hydro system is to get fem seeds, otherwise it's basically cloning a female. Hard part is finding that female that gives you everything you want.

There are DNA sexing options out there, or there were. A little expensive, but for large op, prob worth it.. If you can't get good clones that is. I think it comes out to like $10-20 per plant to sex early..

Does it matter if I run the turbo cloner 24/7 with the light 12/12?

Here is a much...much more simpler and faster way:

The trade off of fem seed is they grow a bit slower than regular seeds which have that "hybrid vigor" from seed.... as most of us run hybrids, I know of few growers running 100% indys or 100% sativas.... but your best option is the kamikaze method.... also as mentioned that doesn't get you your desired pheno/keeper... unless you have a ton of grow space I'd pop 5 at a time max in the event u got lucky enough (I have) to be overwhelmed with 5 females (ive also been unlucky enough to get 5 males out of 5... it happens); that's a lot of pheno-typing as most times you don't see the best of a pheno first time around, sexual maturity and getting to know a strain does wonders.... can't tell u how many keepers I've let go out of stupidity or worse...mislabeling......

I have 3 gigantic TGA females I haven't even been able to run a set of clones through flower yet to see what I have because I needed a sure thing with a few of my older known strains for my first hydro go round... I dun blew my wad too early and popped beans when I shoulda been giving my current moms good love... I learned my lesson a long time ago when I popped 20 seeds (all germed except 1) with only a single 4x4 space to flower in... needless to say I stick with the above mentioned 5 seed start limit nowadays as I run moms and clone as needed... all I need now is a way to run the moms without them being 6+ feet tall in soil switching them to a hydro method and building a nice training square around each one.. thinking 2- 5 gallon dwc buckets plumbed together.... Anyone with any advice on the subject feel free to pm me, I got a room full of unruly mothers that need shrinking down...

Gotta come up with something...

I like the DNA stuff but folks like myself that live in Stone Age states still (not stoned age) have no access to that kinda thing or clones for that matter other than ones we grow...
