Hi there my plant is flowering with about 3-4 weeks to go i have some big fan leafs which im wondering if they are stopping some of the light to the lower buds i have included some pics, the top ones are starting to form but the bottom ones seem really small, if i was to trim this would it help and if so how is the best way to go about it, im using cfl's so am not expecting really big heavy dence buds but i was thinking if i can put more light to the buds will it help a bit, any advice on yes no or best way of trimming would be great, She is on her own and getting nearly 350 watts of cfl red light

I have trimmed a few of my leaves off, the larger ones without any bud sites on them. And sometimes I will just tie them off a bit, otherwise, if you do decide to prune, make sure you do it in one go, otherwise sporadic pruning might stress out the plant. You can always add a few extra lights lower down. Basically the plant needs it's leaves to absorb the light. You have a lot of good growth here, and based on your pix, the buds are doing well. So in my op. I would tie off the larger fan leaves. The buds are looking nice.

I'm growing some Afgan Kush, with no indoor rating. The three remaining one was/is a total freak. This is my first time too, but so far it's been bent, topped and trimmed, flushed and renuted. All that's left is some flowers trying to be buds, but somehow 7mos later, im realizing it's 'not' going to develope buds. The other two are better but nothing like some of the pics on here.

Sorry I think your too far into flowering to remove any fans or branches. The plants have pretty much done all the growing they are going to do now and concentrate the energy to the buds. During veg, topping and training will help you keep an even canopy and for the first couple weeks of flowering it is okay to lollipp them by trimming undergroowth that is shaded. CFLs are nice though because unlike HIDS there are many points of light so get the lights to totally surround the plant, I''ve seen some good yeilding plants this way with only cfls.

Just get another high wattage CFL bulb for the rest of the lower growth. (And when you say 350 watts of CFL you mean the actual wattage, not the 'equivalent', correct?)

I've used these kinds of compacts on lower growth before, and it does add significantly enough to the yield. It just gets less and less efficient the more compacts you add on because HID's just plain put out more lumens per watt.
