Should my plant have come up yet?

Hello, this is my fist grow. I germinated my seed using the paper towel method and planted it about 1 inch down(root down) in some relatively loose home made compost. I did this 4 weeks ago and my seed still hasnt even broken through the soil yet! I have been using natural mineral water( the kind that is usually drunk)
and have only given it a little bit every now and then and that was only a few drops. I have done this in a cup with four slits in the bottom for drainage. This is all indoors.
Why hasnt this worked???

lol, get something small and unbury it bit, and see if its still alive.. should not take 4 weeks, there is so many things it could be that it did not pop the surface..

id say dig it up a bit and see what it looks like, you best bet would be to start new..

forget all the fancy methods, get your seed put it in distilled or ph balanced water for like 12 hours and no matter what plant it in moist soil, about 3 seedlegnths down and keep it in a dark warm place, about 80 degrees, within 1 week the seed should be up or at least poking the surface, and then give it light and let it go

once it breaks the seed, i plant it, it rises within 3 days for me, just a fyi

I concur. Except I would still do the paper towel method. Not saying awry's way won't work, just that's how I do it. I like to make sure the seed has cracked open and see the tap root before I stick it in the ground. Everything else is spot on. Don't bury the seed any deeper than a 1/2" down, and DON'T pack the dirt in over it. Most important part is that the dirt stays WARM and MOIST around the seed. Not saturated, but moist. Good luck.

just different methods to start hah, i just say put it in dirt because first grower, might be touching the taproot or planting it upside down or something lol

i dont see people these days just putting the seed in the dirt and water it and let it do its thing, all these fancy ways hah

I hear ya bro.

ok so its been five weeks......im guessing its probable safe to assume that my seed it dead

Bro, you're still waiting on that seed to emerge? It was probably dead three weeks ago. Just do what we told you to do. Dig it up, and either plant a new seed(with the pointy end DOWN), or germinate a new seed in the paper towel like you did before and plant it with the tap root down. Just don't make the hole any deeper than 1/2" deep. Cover it gently and DON'T pack the dirt in tight. Keep the SOIL WARM and MOIST(not saturated), NO NUTES, and it will pop for you.

Is the cup your using transparent? if it is it may have let light get to the root and messed it up that way? maybe.

yeh jimboy you mite be right there. I am not using a completely see through cup but it will let some light through.
