shroom help

Though it says microwave and dishwasher safe, I'm not all that sure how hot either of those get. I personally refused to buy any containers that didn't state the maximum temperature they can withstand, but this could very well do.

I know that the pressure cooker usually gets up to around 120 degrees Celsius, and many containers do not say they will go that high. Maybe you could always test one out and make sure it doesn't melt, and then go ahead and take it from there.

I've never grown shrooms without a pressure cooker, so I don't know what the likelihood of you getting contaminations will be. Though, I do know that my pressure cookie (a European model) only goes to like 90 kpa (roughly 13 PSI), and I've been lucky enough to only get a contamination once out of my three attempts (and it was only in a single jar).

As for the size of the terrarium, you don't need to get a fish tank or anything glass or fancy like that. In fact, I'd discourage it and urge you to either build something yourself, or buy a large transparent plastic container in a department store (this way you can poke holes in it for gas exchange). Mine is only around 12-18 inches high, and the mushrooms never went that high... I have no idea on the number of liters, but I'd ballpark it around 30-50. You could probably get away with much less as well, depending on the number of cakes you do. I've seen pictures where people grew shrooms in a 2 liter cola bottle, so anything is possible.

If you're not going to use a pressure cookie, I'd suggest cooking the cakes for a bit longer, since the temperature won't get as high that way, and will take longer to work the heat into the core of the cakes.

Good luck! :)
