hey guys! First time poster and I know there are tons of answers out there but I'm going to be making the switch to led mainly for utilities costs. Now before anyone jumps down my throat about true wattage and full spectrums I want it noted I'm only in a 3x3 space and I'm only focusing on one plant that will be scrogged in a 5 gal dwc.

As far as a 3x3 space and a single plant scrog set up what would a couple of you led vets recommend for good penetration? I've been doing a ton of research on the different companies but is there any that significantly stand out besides the advertising Giants i.e. California light works, kind, black dog. Is it worth shelling out the extra dough for the name?

Help is always appreciated and opinions are valued! Happy growing!

You need 250-400 watts of actual draw led for a 3x3. 220 can work if you have 45+% efficiency lights.

Id rather have a CLW burple,at least those run decent osram diodes I think.

Platinum and kind both use cheaper chinese diodes,I have personal experience with platinum and cant recommend them at all.

Blackdog looks extremely overpriced for the price of what you get imo

I don't know anything about cob. I was speaking more of higher quality LEDs.

A Cree C.O.B L.E.D. is about the best quality you can get . Stay away from ebay cheap lights , Buy something with good reviews and be prepared to spent a little coin on it. I would just run a 400 HPS if it was me, You could look on here and find out how to make a really good led system for about 500 bucks that would blow anything store bought out of the water. You could post here and ask the RIU experts https://www.rollitup.org/t/if-you-are-new-to-led-and-want-help-choosing-what-to-buy-post-here.633304/

Can't say thank you enough fellas!!!! So much killer info! Basically the only reason that I'm making the switch from hps is my bills are gettin a little high and the efficiency of my grow needs to increase. I'm leaning more towards a true 450 led that will replace a hps or mh system.

No kind or advanced platnum cause of the cheepy diodes. Rgr that! So who do we really like for led?

My friend has a kind he really likes it. Im gettin advance platum led for my 2x4 veg
That price tag on the kind doeeee! Robbery I say! Still pretty up in the air about it and it's really the last thing that I'm waiting on. Pretty sure I like the kind for the veg/flower switch but is the name worth the money? They brag about upgraded heat sinks and even supercloset did a full par, and spectrum tests even vs a hps. I don't know how much of that test is garbage propaganda but kinda convincing.

Here's the video

Lemme know what ya think!

Chip on board LEDs have good and bad models as well lol. Cheap Chinese cobs are very inefficient. Bridgelux, Cree, citizen etc. make very high quality, high efficiency cobs. I agree with the hps statement within a budget. Except I would run a 600 in a 3x3.

Don't buy a kind. They're crap. You'd be better off just running hps.

Yeah I fucked up and didnt write the cree in front of the C.O.B L.E.D. on my response. I fixed it . As for the electricity bill, I'd still run a 400 hps and just deal with the byproduct "heat issues" and just take some time making an informed decision on what led to pick up . 400 hps is perfect for a 3x3 scrog , 600 hps will start having more problems with heat build up , and unless you can stay on top of it vigilantly it would be more trouble then it's worth IMO. That being said I have a 1000 hps in a 40 inch x 40 inch tent and run a 5k btu air conditioner for heat with no problems, I usually run 32 ish clones and pull about 2 lbs every 55-60 days doing so. So bigger hps in smaller spaces can be done, it just depends on how well you stay on top of it. Hell if you lived in N Michigan I'd give ya an hps . BB :)

Preciate the offer my man!!! I'd love to come scoop it just waaaaaaaaaay south of ya! I've been also considering the small a/c possibility of things too. Definitely diggin the possibilities of your setup. Major props

Anyone used the diamond Xl series at all? Pretty much swayed to just get this thing Rollin with a 400 hps and making a well informed and even more researched led choice down the road. Your guys voices are always greatly heard!!! Thanks so much.
