SirForest's first grow

Welcome All
I am a first time grower and allthough i have done alot of research on techniques I would appreciate your opinion and idea's.
My cabinet is 48"h x 42"w x 24"deep, I have an exaust at the top side and intake that is filtered on the bottom, both are fitted with computer fans.
I am going to use coco coir for medium and have picked up nutrients specific for coco. While doing research i heard alot of good things about Monkey Juice only when at the store I found out that it is being discontinued and supplies were going fast, i managed to buy parts A&B for blooming but needed to use another for Veg. My local store gave me a free sample to try for my first grow of "Optimum", you will see how it works as i do.
I have 2 5000k 105w Cfl,s arriving in a couple days that i am using for Veg., so in the pics of my cabinet thats why you dont see any lights.
I have also got some White Widow seeds that I bought from The Ontario Seed Company and have 3 started,,,hopefully at least 1 is female.
I will include lots of pics so please keep coming back and feel free to comment.

What lights are you going to use for flowering. I believe what you need are the 2700k for flowering.
Hopefully the Optimum works well. One thing I needed to add was Cal-Mag+

Looks like your pretty much all set there Sir.
I like the look of your cab.
Looking forward to seeing some lights and plants in it.
All the best mate, I'm pulling up a chair.

I was thinking of Cfl's for flowring too but after talkin to the guy at my hydro store, I am making a trade for a 1000w system i have (witch is just too much for me) for a 400w system, so for flowering I will modify my cabinet and use the 400 from then on. Cal-Mag+ will be on my next visit then.
Thanks for coming by your thread has been 1 of my Favorites

If your going to go with a 400w for flower why not use it through the entire grow?
It's HPS I assume?
You can then use your cfls for side lighting maybe or build another cab for cloning/vegging.
The reason I'm suggesting this is if you start with a HID lamp you can dial your set up in during veg.
You don't want to be dialling it in during flowering.
You want your cab totally sorted by the time you flower.
With only 4ft of vert' a 400w is gonna heat up that cab unless you get it into a vented cooltube.

So of the 3 seeds I germinated in paper towel have sprouted and now in peat-pots,,as u can see 1 is well on its way anther is showing the 3rd is takin its time. I am thinking of skipping the smaller pots and put them right into 2.5gal pots.
I am hoping they r big enough since I plan to start flowering at about 10" high.
How big should these babies should be for potting?

I will go see about trading my 1000w this week and hopefully make the trade,,if so i will go all 400w..wont b hard fitting it in and yes i will make sure i use a cool tube, also the reason this cabinet is in my bedroom is thats the only room with an a/c unit for the summer. so if I do go HID heat shouldnt b an issue.

It's good that you have your cab in an air conditioned room.
Just bare in mind that your exhausting all the heat from the cab into the room as well.
Should be cool but you won't know until your fully pumping.
As for your seedlings I like to get them into there final resting place asap.
Just be careful not to over water when you have small plants in big pots.
I'd cut the netting off those peat-pots and get them into their 2.5gal pots soon.
This will allow the main tap root to grow straight down unrestricted.
The more space you give the roots early on, the bigger and faster your plants will grow.

Going to see about the trade this week,,I spent a bit more than in intended. Thats the reason i may wait til flower, my plan is to mother a female and clone from her so any flowring should be months away yet.

Allright Mamath after some carefull consideration, I feel i should hold off on the HID light for the summer. I am on the upper floor of a house and it gets warm enough up here in the summer and dont want to add too much more. This will give us a unique comparison for CFL vs. HID. Proof will be in the pudding. So to answer Bonerman directly I plan on ordering 2 CFL 105w ine 2700k range in a month or so.

Ha Ha ... some of the ladies call me that :hump: No worries.

Having that cab in an a/c room is not going to effect the temps all that much. Mammath is correct about using hid's. I would just get an mh conv bulb for veg and hps for flower. There has been tons of comparisons done already.

Good start mate.
Just watch not to over water in these early stages with the coco-coir.
Plants that size, in those pots of coco, will probably only need watering once a week maybe.

Coco coir wicks water fast. Make sure you check them often so they dont dry out. Mammath is right and be very careful to not over water.

I think I watered my last coco grow about every two days....even more in flower stage.
