Super gardening and great journal one of the best I have read a lot of great info being shared. I think it is good you flipped now By no means am I an expert on scrog as I just finished my 3rd which I deemed a clusterf### I was able to totally fill the screen before I flipped and had no idea of the monster I had created, it was ugly, bud rot for the 2nd time, swore I would let the stretch fill it up next time.I am now a firm believer in giving the buds a little breathing room and optimum airflow through the canopy, it is a must,I'm sure you are aware of this just a reminder.I will be looking forward to the rest of the grow and am sure I will be better off for it.Keep em'green, later dude

Thank you very much for the kind words good sir!

I haven't done many scrog grows myself either so I'm still learning some of the nuances of it. I'm definitely sold on it being one of the best methods of growing under horizontal light, but there are quite a few factors one needs to consider in order to make it a success. Mainly knowing how your strain is going to perform under the screen, how much will they stretch in flower and how quickly they veg.

In my case, the Berry Bomb didn't seem like it was filling the screen quite as quickly during veg, but it seems to be stretching quite a bit. The Amnesia Lemon was quite vigorous in veg and still is in the flower stretch. There are quite a few variables with different strains that will determine the best way to train them under screens it seems. However something I definitely messed up on was making the screen too high above the plants, took way longer to grow up to the screen that it should have. Next time I'll be starting with tiny clones and letting them grow until they hit the screen, once that happens I'll top the main branch and train all of the secondary tops into the screen and essentially rinse and repeat from there. I feel that will help me quite a bit with filling the screens up faster.

Are you growing in a tent by chance? Because the limited space seems to be why people recommend filling the screen to 75% instead of 100% before triggering flower. Otherwise it'll be a complete clusterfuck like you said, buds will get too close to the light source and even each other. I only wanted to fill the screens 100% because my ceilings are pretty high up and I have plenty of room. I made my holes in the screen 3 inches wide and each hole gets it's own branch. I like 3 inch holes because it avoids the problem you were pointing out with things getting too close, this way all of my buds will have a 2-3 inch gap in between them.

This may sound somewhat silly, but I'm not too concerned with mold or mildew becoming an issue in my grow. Don't get me wrong, I'm of course taking every single precaution there is to make, but where I'm living in the desert. Outdoors our humidity pretty much never ever gets above 15% and even that can be quite high, 5-10% humidity is the norm around here unless it's monsoon season. On top of that, half the year it's 90-120+ outside with night temps typically hovering at around 80-90 in the summer. Mold and mildew spores are everywhere, however around here in the desert isn't exactly the best place for them to be as prolific as they would be in say, the midwest or the south? So not only is mold and mildew not as prevalent in my area as it is in other parts of the country, but my humidity levels in the shed are kept in check. Even if I did somehow get mold or mildew spores inside of the grow, they would have a bit of a rough time actually establishing themselves anywhere. I have 4 wall mount fans, 4 desk fans underneath the canopies, and two 15k BTU air conditioners.

I feel that for people like me that are limited by plant count, the SCROG is pretty much the only way to grow if you're indoors. If you aren't limited by plant count, then the SOG becomes a lot more viable than a SCROG in terms of a shorter veg time, however the amount of time and effort it takes to deal with that many clones is definitely more work in the long run. Yeah with single plant SCROG the extra veg time is a bit of a bitch, but if you're running CO2 this will actually reduce the amount of time you need to veg.

Thanks again for the kind words and I'm glad my journal has been useful for you :)

I'll be snapping some more photos of the ladies tonight, things are getting pretty intense in there right now. In about 4 hours at lights on will be the start of day 10 of 12/12 and I'm not really seeing any signs of the stretch ending soon. From what I'm seeing I've probably got at least another 4-5 days of stretch. Most of the girls have a 3x3ft canopy, measuring 36-44 inches in diameter. Depending on the growth I continue to get, I anticipate that I'll tuck and bend for the next 3-5 days, after that I'm going to let everything start to grow upward. I'm seeing a decent amount of pistils popping out, but from what I can tell I'm about 10-20 days out from getting any actual buds forming.

Very much interested to see what these strains and this setup is capable of yielding. I've taken clones of all 7 strains, but have yet to decide which ones I'll actually grow out again. The ones that yield the best will be grown next crop, and as that next crop gets going I'll be getting myself some more seeds so I can go pheno hunting. Grand Daddy Purple is a for sure next time around, one of my all time favorite strains but I've only ever had quality GDP a handful of times. Most "GDP" I come across is absolute crap, I want real GDP. The purple golf balls that reek of grape and hit you with the most amazing euphoria and sense of well being ever. It's the perfect strain for people suffering depression and/or PTSD, and seeing as most of my patients are vets I feel that's a perfect strain for them.

I'm pretty hopeful for my results so far though. The last time I personally grew plants out this large they were outdoor plants roughly the same size as some of these girls and they all yielded 1lb minimum in 15g pots, however I'm still not going to assume I'll be pulling 1lb per light/plant as that's just asinine on my part. The 1000 watters should pull 1lb each no problem, but the 600 watters may or may not. 1lb under a 1000w isn't even .5GPW so if I don't pull that from each 1000w I'll have to seriously re-evaluate my technique as well as the strains used. I'd have to pull .75GPW to pull 1lb from a 600w light, and while that is definitely doable, I'm just not quite sure exactly how dialed in everything is at this point. I've got everything in the room as it should be in terms of optimum conditions, but cutting my veg time down 2 weeks is really going to hurt my end result for sure but only time will tell.

At this rate I anticipate that I'll be harvesting the last week of August or the first week of September.

As always, thank you all for your time :)

It's ironic you mention the GDP that is my all time favorite, and will be growing that my next indoor run starting Sept. It's just too hot to grow indoors where I'm at (central valley Ca).or I should say too expensive for me PG&E charges a fortune here and I just can't justify the A/C besides I have my outdoor to tend during the summer and that keeps me busy as well as happy.Yeah the last indoor was in a 4x4 tent under a 1000 watter I really liked the way I could control the enviroment so easily, and they grew so fast and big in no time at all,but at the end it was way too much for for the tent, lesson learned,l am still pretty new to this indoor gig but I'm getting better every grow,So is there anybody you would recommend as to where to buy the GDP seeds?I think you described it perfectly,Truth be told I don't smoke a lot, more like rarely but GDP for me is like a totally different high not really sure how to explain it.Anyways sorry for hijacking your journal a little bit I won't make a habit of it.Later

A big thanks again. I'm just starting to tie down, and soon the girls (I hope)go into the tent.

I'll look up coots soil recipe. It sounds interesting. Some really helpful info on the lights she's using. Might supplement with an old UFO LED that lights up only one half of its leds. Figure I have it and couldn't hurt, plus it adds a bit more red and yellow light.

She just got the tent. Is 3x3 and 7 feet tall. We'll use your info above to figure out the screen height and to estimate flower stretch v light ceiling.

Great help. And your stuff is looking fantastic! Hope my Jack gets your short node spacing and number of bud sites.

Anytime my man and thank you for your time and words!

Definitely look into Coot's recipe though, it's absolutely game changing and it is deserving of all of the credit for my results thus far. It is unbelievably simple, yet just as effective. The only thing to consider about Coot's recipe is that it is absolutely useless without a good source of humus. I started worm bins, 2 30g rubbermaid totes a good couple of months before even getting this grow going. By the time I was ready to mix my soil I had 3-4 cuft of fresh EWC, I had to supplement with compost and EWC I found online. When I lived in California I was next door to a worm farm, so fresh EWC were always available, not anymore though :p

A lot of people use compost for the humus part of Coot's recipe, but I personally prefer to use EWC because it's just the absolute best thing to use. I do have compost piles, but those pretty much get thrown into the worm bins instead of my soil. The worms will refine your compost and make it even better than it was before. On top of that, if you feed the worms the same amendments/minerals that Coot's recipe calls for then you will have the absolute best EWC that can possibly exist.

As for the extra light, it's a good thought but it may not be necessary. If you had a 400-600w HPS in the tent then the extra light would definitely help, but from what I can recall your friend is using a 315 cmh? That should be more than enough light for sure.

I'm glad you bring up the short node spacing and bud sites though, if you take a look at the other plants you'll notice they've all got that going on too. It's actually not a genetic thing, but that's from using coconut water. Coconut water is mind bogglingly game changing, I seriously can't believe I went without it for so long but it's easily the best thing I've ever used on my girls before. This is the first time I've had node spacing that short and it's all due to the coconut water. Earlier in the journal I went pretty in depth about coconut water, but to summarize the stuff is filled with all sorts of good stuff. Has cal, mag, potassium, and even trace amounts of phosphorus! On top of that, it has cytokins and is essentially a SST (sprouted seed tea) so it will provide enzymes to your soil as well, not to mention the incredible things it does for your roots. I use whatever says "Non-GMO/organic/etc" and it usually goes for around $3 a bottle. I foliar feed and water with it once a week in conjunction with the other stuff I have. Foliar feeding will stop in about a week since buds are starting to form, but I'll continue feeding with coconut water until around week 5-6. If your friend is still in veg, grab yourself a bottle of coconut water and you can have the same node spacing and bud sites :) I would feed 100ml per gallon when they were under 1ft in the 2g pots, once they got transplanted to the 25-30g pots they got between 200-500ml per gallon depending on their size. Since your friend is using Sub's soil, you'll find it compliments the soil quite nicely. You can use coconut water in normal soil, but it won't be as game changing as if it were in living soil. That's because the enzymes in the coconut water feed the microbes in your soil.

Perhaps try talking her into getting a journal going or something because I'd love to see how it turns out. I've only got about 4-5 years of growing experience under my belt, but I still never get tired of watching these girls from start to finish. Happy growing my man, and thanks for your time :D

Ohh no shit? That's too funny. Not only do we have the same favorite strain, but I'll also be starting my next indoor run in September as well! xD

I was in SoCal before moving here, so I had Edison. APS is the absolute worst though, they suck so much that I'm actually missing Edison! APS charges you so much more than just for electricity. They charge you fees for delivering the electricity, the charge you for various state related bull shit, and they even charge you a fee for your fucking bill. By my calculations, I've used around $500-550 in electricity this month. However, my bill will likely be $700+ because of all the bullshit fees. That's why I had to cut my veg period short or it would have cost more! After this crop is done that won't be an issue because I'll be back at full time hours again plus I'll be getting donations to recoup the costs of electricity.

I wish I could do an outdoor where I'm at though. I mean, I have the space and all that but it absolutely would not be discreet and that alone makes it a no-go. If I grew outdoors, I could get WAY more than I will indoor, but with how out in the open I am out here I would pretty much just be growing for rippers. My shed is discreet and locked nice and tight with plenty of cameras around the perimeter. Can't imagine not having cameras, back in SoCal they prevented rippers not once but twice. Saw them come into my greenhouse and then move the cameras so I decided to go and greet them. Only teenagers though, with things being somewhat legal now all the scary people have their own operations going and have no need to bother me.

I think I know what you mean about GDP though, real GDP is just unlike any other strain that I've ever had before. When I would smoke it, it was literally impossible for me to feel anger or sadness. I'd get pissed about something for a second, then just get over it immediately after. It just provides such an incredible sense of well being, I love it.

I get all of my seeds from Attitude seeds though, although I hear great things about Herbies as well. The only issue I have with Attitude (and I would guess this is true for all seed banks?) is their pick n mix. If possible, I recommend buying your seeds in packs instead of single seeds. When I buy 5-10 packs, I have no issues. When I buy single seeds though, it's a total crapshoot. I only buy seeds online for my genetics now though, I have had nothing but shit results from clones. Unless you are getting clones from someone you know and trust 100%, don't even bother. Sucks to have a perfect environment for growing only to discover the clones you got were utter shit. Seeds can get pretty pricey, but they're the only sure thing. Plus, you usually only have to buy seeds one time because you can just take clones and make a mother plant to keep the genetics.

I don't smoke much anymore myself either, but that's because of the crap we have around here. They call it "medicinal" but it is everything but. Medicinal marijuana should not make you choke and cough for 5 minutes, it should not make your head hurt nor give you headaches, it shouldn't hurt your lungs or cause chest pains. They are obviously using synthetics and not drying properly. I've seen some synthetic growers that I would call nothing short of artists, but they are very few and far between now. Growers like that tend to grow for the black market because dispensaries simply won't pay them what they're worth because these shit growers are lowballing everyone. Fortunately, my patients are actual patients and not just a bunch of kids that want to get high. My patients are willing to pay for top quality meds, especially since they know it will be 100% organic and pesticide free. My vendor is so stoked to finally have access to such clean meds that she's told me she'll be paying for testing so I can't wait to see the results of that.

Please don't apologize for hijacking anything because you certainly are not! If anything, I should apologize for being so long winded! It's hard for me to summarize my thoughts :p I'm always thrilled when someone decides to stop by and give me their time and words, really does mean a lot and is the entire reason I started this journal :)

Subb'd. Looking forward to see how the yields from the 600s to the 1000s
Thank you for the sub, always appreciated :)

I'm really eager to see what I end up getting considering I had to cut my veg time down and wasn't able to completely fill my screens. Should be quite interesting for sure.

Got some photos for you guys finally, sorry for the delay. My phone is a POS and if I try taking photos with anything less than 50% battery it straight dies. However I'll have to post them when I wake up because they're too HQ and need to be downsized, I live in the boonies and my internet just can't handle the uploads lol

Week 4 is one day away and things are already looking pretty good though. Everything but the Berry and Cluster Bombs are showing signs of resin production at this point, with the Amnesia showing the most by a mile. On top of that it's growth in the last week has been pretty ridiculous. This one very well could end up a keeper at this rate. The Bomb seeds strains not showing resin where as all the others are does somewhat concern me though, however the reviews I saw on their gear seemed solid so I'm gonna remain hopeful there.

I'm quite eager to see what my yield ends up being though, this method is quite new to me and I've had some hiccups here and there but it looks pretty textbook for the most part.

I know most people don't really like the whole GPW measurement, but I feel it really helps with giving me an idea of just how dialed in I am. The more efficient our usage of lights is will ultimately determine just how close one can get to 1+gpw. If a 600w can yield an "average maximum" of 1gpw, the only way you can possibly hope to come close to this number is entirely determined by how much light you're using. Absolutely none of my plants have a canopy that measures 3x3, let alone 4x4. Most of them come pretty darn close to 3x3 sqft canopies, but pretty darn close won't get us a max yield.

However, my girls are about 2ft tall on average. For the 600w lights, this is the perfect height for them. However for the 1000w, they should have been a good 6-12 inches taller. I'm at maximum light penetration on my 600 watters, but not on my 1000 watters. I'm a little peeved at the Cluster Bomb because it's supposed to be a Cindy hybrid, so I'm thinking it'll stretch. Instead its a short and stout little indica looking bush. Canopy is 30inx30in, which makes it my smallest one. It's looking like it's gonna throw off some fat buds and I hope it does because if it doesn't my yields under that light are gonna be shit.

However, as the photos will show I did a little re-arranging under that 1000w light. The 2 plants I have in the 2g pots are getting a lot bigger than I expected, however they're also small enough to be able to share the light with the Cluster Bomb. So instead of just the Cluster being under the 1000w light, I've got the two 2g pots under the light as well. Now that those are under direct light they should give me decent yields, if nothing else it'll increase my yield for that light as a whole because unless the nugs on the Cluster Bomb turn out to be the fattest buds I've ever seen in my life, I highly doubt the Cluster is capable of producing even .5gpw under that light with the size of it. But we'll see, things are looking pretty damn good considering it's the end of week 3 today. All I can do is see what happens and keep doing my thing.

And below is where you'll see the changes I was talking about earlier on. The Cluster Bomb didn't end up taking up as much of the screen as I thought, which kind of works out I suppose because now the two 2g pots can be under direct light for the rest of the cycle. My GPW for that 1000w would have suffered if I didn't add those 2 plants to the equation, the Cluster is way too small for such a big light. Did not cover as much canopy as I thought it would (I mean, it's Cindy 99 ffs) so unless those buds are ridiculously fat I have a feeling I'm gonna be disappointed with this one.

I'm not all too pleased with the results my Bomb Seeds strains have been giving me thus far, but I'll wait until all is said and done and they've been in jars for a few weeks before writing them off entirely. We'll see though, week 3 is barely done so it's still pretty early to be making too many judgments.

So as of yesterday week 4 has started, i'll snap a few more photos when I go in the room tonight. The Amnesia Haze is freaking unstoppable, just does not stop growing and stretching and the buds are starting to get huge on them.

Everything else is coming along nicely, but not like the Amnesia Haze. Both the Amnesia Haze and Critical + 2.0 are doing amazing and both happen to be from Dinafem, I've always had good results running their stuff so I have a feeling I'm going to be quite pleased with these two strains.

You guys might get a kick out of this though. About a week ago I was doing some trimming on the girls, getting rid of crap underneath the screen as well as a few leaves here and there that were covering my buds up. I usually don't do this, but I also usually don't have to cut my veg time short either :/ Anyway, as I'm removing leaves I end up spotting a bee on one of my nugs! Must have found it's way in when I opened the door at some point. At first I thought it was kind of neat until I realized what bees do. Someone else in my town must be growing, because I've got some pistils turning brown on me on random buds on the PTW, Berry Bomb, and Lemon Amnesia. Off the top of my head there are only 3 things that make pistils turn brown; 1) they're getting ripe, 2) they're stressed, 3) they got hit with pollen. I'm only in week 4 so they certainly aren't ripe, they definitely haven't been stressed in anyway, so that bee must have not only found a male in town (or even further) but this bee also managed to get itself into my garden and pollinate some of my buds!

I checked all over for signs of bananas/hermaphrodites when I found the bee just to make sure, but I couldn't spot a one. With the amount of pistils I had on the plants when I found them, I'd have spotted the bananas/pods a long time ago. What are the odds that a freaking bee would manage to pollinate some of my buds? Never in my 5 years of growing have I seen this happen, I'm kind of excited because if I end up liking any of those strains enough to grow them again I'll have seeds. I'll be wrapping strings around the "impregnated" buds so that come harvest time, I can keep those buds as personals and dig out whatever seeds may come from them.

What a freaking trip man!

I'll have some bud shots as soon as I can though!

Snapped a couple photos of the Original Amnesia Haze while I popped my head in there.

Don't remember the last time I had plants looking this good so early, but then again I never had a controlled room either :p I'm paying a pretty penny to run these air conditioners in these desert summer months, but the girls are sure showing their appreciation and that's all that matters :) Just can't stop thinking about what they'd be like with the extra 2 weeks of veg though haha.

I love ur setup and very nice plants i love organic grow that the last method i learn and should be the first one !
Do you use tea
Thank you much for the kind words!

I've gone away from teas and often recommend others do the same, unless it's an EWC, but even then. I get much better results making sure my soil is up to par when I build it and making sure to maintain that, so long as that holds true I pretty much never need teas. Whatever ingredients you used when you made your soil, be sure to have extras laying around for the necessary top dresses. For me, that means constantly having access to kelp/crab/neem meals as well as the freshest EWC I can get my hands on. I have my own worm farm, but it doesn't produce nearly enough for me with these pots so I have to supplement with others' EWC. But by top dressing your plants every 4-6 weeks with EWC and amendments you should never have to use teas of any sort, top dressing and watering allows your plant and the microbes to have more control over things where as I feel that teas tend to throw off the balance of your soil more often than not.

There are a lot of people that will tell you it is impossible to burn your plants with teas and let me just say this is NOT true, you can in fact burn your plants with teas. If you use too much alfalfa meal or too much guano then you will get the same burn you would overdoing it with synthetics. When you top dress with amendments, the microbes will attack them at a nice, slow and steady pace that will be exactly what the plant wants. However, when you use teas, you're putting all of your organic amendments in a stocking/sock and speeding things up by oxygenating the water. As a result of this, the organic matter gets broken down quicker as a result of the extra microbes in your teas that are the result of the extra oxygen. However this isn't always a good thing, if you overdo it with guano and have too much of it available in your tea when you give it to your plants/soil then now your plants/soil have too much available guano since it wasn't decomposed at the normal rate the plant wanted.

And on that note, make sure you consider everything that is inside your organic amendments. Here's an example that happened to me within the last few weeks that I'm still dealing with. I top dressed with crab meal about 2-3 weeks ago to get the girls ready for weeks 5+ of flower, the stuff I got has an NPK of 2-3-1, but I forgot to account for the calcium in it (23%!). Now, normally this wouldn't be much of an issue if it weren't for my heavily calcified water. I didn't even consider the fact that my well water is pretty high in calcium already, so top dressing with the extra crab meal is giving me signs of calcium toxicity as well as the magnesium deficiencies that come with it. It's nothing too major and all I have to do is mix with some water from those water machines at grocery stores and I'm fine, had I made a tea instead of top dressing I'm sure my plants would have looked much worse.

People typically use teas because they want to "re-inoculate" their soil, but so long as you stay on top of things you should never have to do this. The microbes constantly reproduce and die off, much like worms they are capable of regulating their respective populations just fine on their own so long as you give them the tools they need to do so. If you constantly keep your living soil moist and stay on top of your top dressing, you should never need to re-inoculate your soil because nothing ever goes dormant when things are healthy in the first place.

However, shit happens and sometimes we make mistakes and allow our soil to get too dry, or perhaps we forget to maintain the no-till system after harvest. A lot of the microbes will either die off or go dormant, however hope is not lost. This is the point that people typically look to making a compost or EWC tea, but I've been using a product called "Growers Recharge" in place of teas. All the "Growers Recharge" is is just a bunch of various microbes ready to go, just add into your water and hit your girls with it. What you're doing with the recharge is the same thing as the compost/EWC teas, but it's much better because it's just pure microbes with no nutritional values to them. As a result of this, you can re-inoculate your soil with JUST microbes and the microbes from the Recharge will pick up where the last generation of microbes left off, decomposing everything in your soil as well as on your top dresses. If you have earthworms in your pots as well then you'll have some happy girls!

Living organic soil is all about putting the soil in charge, with teas you take that away and put yourself in charge instead. Seeing as how this is how plants were designed to grow and thrive, anything I do differently than that will be me intervening with an already perfectly constructed system. The soil and the setup are the only reason I'm getting decent results, these microbes and plants have been around much longer than I have and so I'm quite comfortable putting my faith in them instead of myself :P

I'm no expert, and I'm not here to knock anyone's style by any means. However, when researching grow journals/threads from the organic gurus of various forums I never saw many of them using teas and it was for the reasons above.

Hope that helped my man.

Starting to notice some slight phosphorus deficiencies on the ladies now. I mean, I caught on to it a few days ago but it wasn't too bad at the time. I gave them a couple of days before making any changes because I wanted to be certain that's what I was dealing with. Now that I know it looks like some of the ladies are going to be getting some of the Fish Hydrolysate tonight. I got the stuff for this exact reason, seeing as I was using CO2 I had a feeling my soil was going to start running low on P much earlier than expected and prepared accordingly. The Crab Meal I got from Neptune's Harvest isn't as finely ground as the stuff from Down to Earth, so it won't be available as soon as the DTE product, however I did this intentionally as it'll release slower than when it's ground into a fine powder. I have no experience with any of these strains so I veered on the cautious side, grabbing the Fish Hydrolysate for the girls that end up needing it. Good stuff too, perfect for giving soil a boost when it's host plant is a P hog like some of these girls appear to be.
